....and not generalize?

It's often the case that minorities/POC need 'break stereotypes' to prove that they're not all alike or to debunk stupid stereotypes placed upon them by society. But should they have to go out of their way to do that, though? OR should people educate themselves and not generalize?

Your thoughts?

Not all stereotypes are even bad. Why should they have to break who they are? It's up to ignorant people talking about them to a)educate themselves and b) stop acting like these stereotypes mean anything/stop using them to attack or make fun of people. A joke here and there is one thing. No problem. But when you let it form a very real opinion about an entire group of people and you treat those people accordingly it's on you, not the entire group of people.

The birds laugh at the turtle because of its strange skin and lack of beautiful wings.
The turtles laugh at the bird because of its silly feathers and lack of a glorious shell.

In the end, they all have beaks and eat bugs, but it's not as amusing to point out similarities. It's more fun for trolls to hide them...

What do you mean by have to? Minorities don't have to do anything, and other people don't have to do anything.
