will do fam, and i'll be completely honest too. impressions before watching it are that it's overhyped as fuck, all because of social justice. <_< but will see, i've been wrong before (example: Undertale ended up being one of the best videogames ever made)

Not quite a Horror/Comedy like say Evil Dead II, but it is clearly in the comedic realm.

I liked it. i thought it was very good. almost as good as people said, except for a couple things. The funny bits were not funny at all, except with maybe one exception When he calls the servant lady a crazy bitch after she apologized in the room. They should've eased off of the humor and let it be just a creepy movie instead.

The concept was really brilliant. I didn't see the entire thing with the brain transplants coming. That was genuinely creepy and interesting and made for an intense final 30 minutes. probably the first movie i've seen that took that kind of legitimately interesting twist at a 0-60 speed of 1 second. it made the entire story so much more interesting.

It also wasn't as preachy as I expected it to be, but I honestly don't know why they chose those stereotypes of white people and black people. I don't know of any white people who act like that (bingo, parties like that, dressing like that) or any black people who act like that (the fat guy's type of humor, calling each other "brother" like that, worrying about being around white people or being in the "sunken place" like in the hypnosis, etc). seems like people who don't fall into any of those stereotypes might leave the film with the wrong impression about what it was really about.

also, the scene where the dad was basically representing a slave trader was pretty creepy. probably the best scene in the film. did not expect that, and while it might have seemed to be exaggerated to some...i think that it makes sense considering the family's history with the slave trade and the grandfather's desire to be immortal via brain swaps. they basically represented a neo nazi type of family where the family still practices those cultural things out of a fetish for the past.

the plot could've been done without the black/white aspects to it, though. it might've even been a better film as a result. but then again, maybe not. maybe the racial elements to it contributed to the tension that created the final 30 minutes of awesomeness. *shrug*

also, i'm not sure if Jordan Peele was trying to claim that black people are physically superior, stronger, or cooler than white people or if that was just him saying that white liberals elevate black people in those ways. or maybe he was trying to say that white people now want to be black people, IE he was taking a stab at the "cultural appropriation" of the black culture. at the end, when the blind guy was talking through the tv. when Chris asked "why black people." thoughts?

^ the grandfather also had that chip on his shoulder from losing to Jesse Owens, and most likely attributed it to race and passed that ideology seen to his family, and can hear those beliefs from his grandson's mouth, for example.

Ah yeah, forgot that apart about losing to Jesse Owens. That makes so much sense. And that explains why when Chris went outside that one night to smoke, the black guy was running really fast - it was the grandfather trying out the new body after the surgery! So I guess it was all about the physical traits for the grandfather. That explains why they only chose black people of a prime physical state. Like how the girl's brother was examining him during lunch, and how that woman touched his arm to see how strong he is, and how his girlfriend immediately started looking for more athletic black guys. It isn't so much that they have black skin or are deemed inferior as much as it was that black people have better genetics for physical activity.

Also, just saw the alternative (originally the first) ending with the Jordan Peele commentary. It seems that the movie was intended, at least originally, to point out that racism is still alive and that the system favors rich white people. I'm glad he went with this other ending, though. Because the system benefits rich people of any race, firstly, and because this ending makes more sense considering all the scenes of Chris's friend trying to find him and help him. (In the alternate ending, it's actually real cops at the end. And the house burns down so there's no evidence of what Chris went through, so he ends up in prison for murder.)

in any case, that was a really good movie and i'd watch it again. i wish the last 30 minutes was a bit more drawn out, though.

would've loved to see a more graphic takedown of the mom, too. the dad got the fucking antlers, but the mom got an off-screen death. i wonder why. :/

Eh, it's nuanced, especially because they never fully explain that other than saying he never got over it. The racism part of it comes from seeing black people as superior genetic specimens after that, not necessarily from thinking that white people are losing to other races... in races.
