2/10 -- the only two games I've ever sold back (Final Fantasy VII and Gran Turismo) were released this year. Add GoldenEye 007, and this turns out to be a truly awful year. I had to go through the list twice to make sure there were actually only 3 highlights. Alundra takes my top spot.

Personal highlights:
Alundra
Elemental Gearbolt
Thunder Force V
---
Montreal Expos (1969-2004)

I'd say I have great taste in games. It lines up perfectly with my taste in games.

I've stopped using the terms love and hate when talking about video games, but back then, I hated just about everything about FF7. I thought the materia system was stupid, which made me seriously dislike the magic sysyem. I couldn't stand the swirl in for every battle and their stupid posing after every battle. I thought the walking around graphics were atrocious. Barret's keepin' it real just made me roll my eyes. And then the god-awful mini-games. Every time you turn around, there's a frickin' mini-game: the timed race through the train, the combination entering, the terrible motorcycle fighting mini-game, falling down the roller coaster, reps in the gym, atrocious marching in a parade, the awful Fort Condor defense, and I'm probably leaving out some. And then I made it to the Gold Saucer, a place full of nothing but more stupid mini-games. At that point, I sold it to Funcoland.

As for Gran Turismo, the time trials completely turned me off. I just want to race. And when you're winning every race handily, being forced to do some stupid task just to prove you're good enough in order to open up more tracks really put me off. The final straw was when I spent a good amount of time on one of them where the target time was, say, 1:23.000 and I did it in 1:23.000 only to have it say I failed.
