If Savitar is a Barry from the future, he goes back in time to cause the conditions (Iris dying) that cause himself to be created? And how does he get all of the memories that current Barry is having?

Yes, that's his motive.

He isn't made until the future, so I guess he remembers everything Barry does until he's created.

But Iris only dies in the present because future Barry time remnant becomes Savitar and goes back in time to kill her, so why would Iris be dying in the present to cause that to happen in the first place?

I guess I just assume that time isn't linear, everything happens at once so the future already happened. Time remnant has to be made to stop himself even though he has to exist in the first place to be made to stop himself. The classic paradox

Iris dying right now from something other than Savitar killing her would indeed break the cycle and probably cause Savitar to not exist. Then again, the same thing (kinda) happened with Thawne and his time remnants still existed for a while afterwards.

Savitar has all of Barry's memories because he is literally Barry from the future.

The easiest explanation is "because the Speed Force".

The way I understand it, erasing Thawne from existence didn't work because he had already caused so many changes in the timeline in present-Barry's past. Savitar can probably be stopped because all the stuff he's doing, while in his own past (as Barry), is still happening now for present-Barry. meaning that present-Barry can change events to change the future.

...Kinda went a bit off-topic there, but yeah, "because the Speed Force".

Yeah, it does seem confusing.

Same with why would Caitlyn's powers make her a villain.

Yeah, that's just straight-up confusing. There's no explanation at all as to why that happened.

Also confusing is, if Savitar is a time remnant, why don't the Time Wraiths or Black Flash not come stop him?

Worse yet, compare the Flash time travel rules to Legend's time travel rules. It's laughably bad.

Agreed. But Flash uses the Speed Force, which I know is a BS excuse, but hey.

The moment that Savitar was instantly affected by Barry's memory loss the previously established rules just flew out the window. That's also the moment Barry should have decided "hey, I just won't make a time remnant." Because the memory loss thing clearly demonstrates that will work.

Yeah, Barry & Co. can be laughably moronic sometimes.

Good question.
