Holy hell, they really meant "open world" after all. JFC, I'm shaking.

Not gonna lie; part of me thinks they're trying to do too much at once. Completely revamping the combat system AND overall game layout/mechanics? The combat system didn't even need to be changed.

But, oh well.

They said there's at least 10 cities, with other minor villages and cities(trading areas, mostly) in between.

They also said the two major rivers will take roughly 5 real-time minutes to swim across.

It's going to be a good size. I don't think it'll be massive, though.

Some more details:

- More ways to capture castles. Can raid castles from high places (eg mountains). Stealth infiltration also possible.

- Long-Range Arrow FPS mode from ≦DW5 confirmed returning & usable for all characters.

- Time & Weather will change real-time. Enemies will be harder to detect you on nighttime & rain.

- Map has Main Missions that will progress history but difficult, so beat related missions to reduce diff.

- State Combo system: Moveset will change phantasmagorically based on surrounding enemy situations. State Combo starts with Trigger attack, then Follow attacks which active change, & ends with Finish attack.

- Interactive Action: Action that changes based on terrain & objects. Can attack with field objects.

- Grappling hook can be used to not only climb castle walls but also high mountains.

- Swimming confirmed returning from DW6!
You can also use oil cans to trigger fire attacks.

- Battles are not split by stages. Battles in the same era (date) will take place in different places.

- If you go to Nanman during Yellow Turban Rebellion, Nanman ppl will be talking about Zhang Jiao.

- Story is character-based (back to pre-DW7). But there will be no What-If branches that alter history.

- The era is corresponding to character chosen. eg. Zhao Yun starts around 184, Wang Yuanji starts after 234.

- Boats are also added as transportation because it takes 5 minutes if you cross Changjiang or Yellow river by swimming

- On land you mainly move by riding horse, but they're also planning to add Fast Travel system.

- Character models are being renewed for #PS4.
Switching character mid-game is still under consideration.

- You can also do things like hunting wild animals with archery, or battling foreign tribes.

- Cheng Pu's weapon is 双矛 Double Pike
(No words on Zhang Fei's weapon yet)

- Seems the era will change after clearing main mission, eg. Beating Zhang Jiao will move time to Dong Zhuo era.

- The basic major flow of history in each character story is basically the same (closer to DW2-5 story modes)

- Character switch mid-game still not confirmed yet because if they live in different eras then retelling is required.

- There will be over 10 unique cities + generic towns & villages.
1 area's size is about 1 kilometer(square?) each.

- Luoyang seems to be confirmed into the 10+ unique city list, so expect cities like Chengdu, Chang'an & Jianye there.


I don't imagine Zhang Fei's weapon will change. Cheng Pu's is almost straight from the novel. It just happens to be similar to Zhang Fei's.

It's only 40% complete ;_;

But that honestly sounds about right given the time frame and announcement. I don't think we'll see it until April-June, despite the games usually coming out in the West ~February.

The world itself advances based on the scenarios you clear. For example, the captures of Bai Ma and Yan Jin will likely be separate battles. You can go ahead and do the battle of Guan Du right away, but that advances the rest of the world past that time frame. But capturing the two aforementioned castles first would lower the difficulty of the Battle of Guan Du.

These weren't their exact examples; I'm just speculating.

yes it did. the tomes that are stronger than muso attacks used to be plus all the other special stuff, plus the increase to musou attacks, plus the option to just use some of your musou made the game ridiculously easy. and some of them (samurai 4, maybe others idk) let you switch between 2 characters.

Everyone's returning and we're getting some new ones, but not as many as we're used to. We don't know the exact number yet, but Zhou Cang and Cheng Pu have been confirmed.

Agree to disagree. And the game being easy was more of a stage design and AI issue than anything combat-related.

The second scan shows some updated stealth mechanics. They mentioned that's going to be a feature in ways to capture castles. The panel with the explosion is likely him shooting the oil rig(they talked about this).


....With that said, I'm not sure if Koei can properly do stealth, but we'll see. They've tried it in past Warriors games and it's pretty bad lol

Edit: You can also see the day/night cycles at the bottom. They mentioned how you'd be harder to see at night.

Pretty much. He held the highest rank of any Wu general outside of the Sun family or anyone who was married into it(such as Lu Xun).

He often gets credit for serving "three generations" of Wu, but that's not entirely true, it's exaggerated, and he's not the only one who did that. In fact, people felt he got snubbed in favor of Han Dang, despite that being the biggest reason people have even wanted Cheng Pu and Han Dang having more feats to his name.

I remember noticing him all the times in the older games, even before Han Dang was introduced, whom never stood out to me as a generic. Cheng Pu even had a scene focussed on him in Warriors Orochi.

Makes me wonder what other, ever present generics, that always stood out to me, they could be promoting to playable?

I know I have my wishlist and Cheng Pu was definitely on there...

I was(and still kinda am) seriously hoping for Xu Sheng, honestly.

Cheng Pu ain't bad, but eh.... I mean, he fits. He was basically celebrity status within Wu, but his actual merit doesn't stack up to other, even more minor, Wu generals.
