I know a girl who said she is and has basically no desire to have sex and feels freed of such "useless" feelings as she put it.

And no this wasn't after I asked her out, so that insult won't work. It wasn't a response to me at all actually, or even a response to being hit on.

Yeah. I met a girl once who I hung out with a few times but didn't go any further than that who identified as asexual. I didn't find out until months after we stopped hanging out. We started talking again when we were both in America on separate trips and just chatting about our experiences.

I was really confused and didn't understand how she wasn't attracted to anyone but it's been a few years since and I don't think I've ever seen her have a boyfriend or anything. I invited her over my house once for a BBQ a few months back and she turned up after years of not seeing each other and it was real weird and she went home after about an hour or two.

Somehow though I think she came over because she was keen.

Pretty sure "asexual" means you reproduce through budding as opposed to having a mate.

Worked with a FtM transgender at my last job. Good guy, really sensitive to a lot of topics though.

Him and his boyfriend made out a lot but they both identified as completely abstaining from sex.

Oh no, asexual reproduction and asexual orientation are different things, whatever will we do?

Asexual doesn't mean they can't be in a loving relationship or anything, they're just not really interested in sex.

Never, I only heard it from people online, though they could be lying.

I watched a documentary about asexuality, which filmed the leaders of AVEN, the big asexual movement organization. It was fine until the producer said, "So, none of you have ever had sex?" and the head of the organization said, "Well, actually, we all have sex, all the time, with each other. It's purely a social thing, instead of a biological thing. And if we're all asexual, there's no 'cheating.' We can all have several boyfriends and girlfriends and just all love each other."

That really painted my view of the entire thing, honestly.

There is a movement that exists to represent the asexual community. AVEN. Although they don't appear to be doing a good job as people still misunderstand what asexuality is and many people still don't think it's a real thing.

And as for what was said in that documentary, that is both true and untrue.

Like sexuality, asexuality is also a spectrum. Some asexuals are completely sex repulsed and never want to have it. Some are okay with having it, but lack that special motivation to do so. To them it is no different than any other activity one might do for entertainment. Others would rather not have it or are indifferent to it, but are willing to because they want the intimacy from it, rather than the sexual gratification. And these things are not mutually exclusive.

So yes, there are asexuals like that, but they are certainly not representative of all of them.

To be fair, I think the term was first used to mean lack of sexual interest like 40-60 years ago.

I'll see about checking this since I'm not entirely sure I'm remembering right.

Edit: Okay, it seems there was a book in 1977 that used asexual in in that way. Not sure if the first though.

I assume based on how you stated this that it was at least largely because of the sexual interest discrepancy?

It was a factor, but she makes it seem like a much larger factor than it was.

That relationship ended with her burning the bridge, poisoning the river under it, and salting the earth for a mile in every direction.

A dude that I used to work with said that he was asexual. He was actually a good looking guy, but he thought that sex was gross. He had a friend talk him into it in hs to try it, but he didn't enjoy it even though he said the girl was pretty. He claimed not to deed or anything. He also thought that human nipples were gross for some reason.
