Dammit why on earth is Buu not gonna end up being in the tournament and instead Freiza? Couldn't they have booted Roshi instead?

Gonna say Piccolo/Buu and Gohan because we don't really know just how much Goku was holding back vs 17. Buu and Piccolo also got regeneration and a bunch of good techs like stretchy arms, chocolate beam, cloning etc. Piccolo is also a sneaky bastards. He fucking pulled off a sneak attack with his SEVERED ARM.

Seriously fuck Roshi. He hasn't done fucking shit in forever and his recruitment episode did nothing to change that. Buu had a good fight in the exhibition and put up a good fight against Goku even using some actual strategy. Krillin got his will to fight back and improved his solar flare to be a lot better. Gohan got his ultimate form back. Piccolo is using his old techs like stretchy arms now and retains his strategizing and has been training hard. 18 and 17 hadn't done much in for ever but they finally get to be in the spotlight and at least are above base Super Saiyan level. 17 also got a lot stronger and 18 had some decent development with Goku and krillin. Tien has some good tricks that let him fight above his weight so to speak. Tri Beam is one of the few techniques that has been somewhat useful against a vastly stronger opponent. Roshi just does the tired cliche perverted old man thing that got old a couple decades ago. He is weaker than the entire cast and will almost certainly get unceremoniously knocked out by a much stronger opponent or a female character takes advantage of his pervertedness and unceremoniously knocks him out that way.

Also I think Cell would be a better choice.

CELL is more able to be reasoned with I think. Freiza' grudge is far too ingrained. Cell has Saiyan Blood too so he could set aside his grudges at the prospect of such a great fight as the Tournament of Power.

I agree. But I can also imagine it to be difficult for Cell to just cast aside his hatred for Gohan. Cell came unglued at the prospect of someone imperfect besting him, and then Gohan went ahead and killed him after he became super perfect. That kind of thing probably messes with you.

On the other hand it's not like Frieza's grudge isn't deep.
