Antitumor activity

Studies in mice and rats have shown that cannabinoids may inhibit tumor growth by causing cell death, blocking cell growth, and blocking the development of blood vessels needed by tumors to grow. Laboratory and animal studies have shown that cannabinoids may be able to kill cancer cells while protecting normal cells.
A study in mice showed that cannabinoids may protect against inflammation of the colon and may have potential in reducing the risk of colon cancer, and possibly in its treatment.
A laboratory study of delta-9-THC in hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer) cells showed that it damaged or killed the cancer cells. The same study of delta-9-THC in mouse models of liver cancer showed that it had antitumor effects. Delta-9-THC has been shown to cause these effects by acting on molecules that may also be found in non-small cell lung cancer cells and breast cancer cells.
A laboratory study of cannabidiol (CBD) in estrogen receptor positive and estrogen receptor negative breast cancer cells showed that it caused cancer cell death while having little effect on normal breast cells. Studies in mouse models of metastatic breast cancer showed that cannabinoids may lessen the growth, number, and spread of tumors.
A laboratory study of cannabidiol (CBD) in human glioma cells showed that when given along with chemotherapy, CBD may make chemotherapy more effective and increase cancer cell death without harming normal cells. Studies in mouse models of cancer showed that CBD together with delta-9-THC may make chemotherapy such as temozolomide more effective.

I'm all for legal weed and I know that it truly does have medical benefits, but I feel like it's blown waaaayyy out of proportion. Like yeah, parts of it might be good for you, but so are fuckin apples.

btw, this comment isn't directed at the study you posted because that really is awesome information!

I'm not saying this applies to TC, but I've noticed that people without a medical need for marijuana never shut up about the "health benefits" as some means of legitimizing recreational use / legalization. It's just funny is all.

It's more of a dumb joke that we laugh about rather than means for justification.

It's a plant. It makes people laugh. It helps them feel better. It's fun. If we get riled up about anything, it's the fact that liquor companies and big pharma are terrified of the pot industry and buy politicians off. Perfect example of crony capitalism. I'm actually SURPRISED republicans don't want to cash in on it. There are tons of jesus freaks who love pot, so it's not exactly career suicide for the right.

That's my point entirely. People without a medical reason to care use medical reasons to legitimize their hobby in the eyes of others. You're promoting it, facts or not.

Because I'm an advocate of legal marijuana.

There are plenty of people who do need it medically, some without a voice of their own, that can't get it. It's up to those that understand that it should be outright legal to be their voice.

Take this young lady as an example.

My friend's kid has all kinds of disorders, possibly slight autism but he has mood swings like crazy. They got some THC stuff for him, like a spray and some edibles. It really helps mellow him out for the day. Much better then retiline or some crazy ass drug like that. As for recreational use, it is much safer then alcohol or cigarettes. I really don't understand why people are so against it honestly. Like what did marijuana ever do to them? If they talking about the illegal activities that follow it, look at the prohibition. Alcohol became even more dangerous and brought out all kinds of mafia types. There really is no grounds for making it illegal unless your against recreational drugs period, then i can stand by that point.

I'm not saying it is without medical benefits for fuck's sake... this inability to comprehend me is probably one of its negative side effects...

I'm saying it's stupid that stoners use it for fun but try to gain acceptance with info that isn't personally relevant because saying "I like to get baked" is a shit way to convey the message. It's only going to be interpreted as altruistic if somebody doesn't smoke and still advocates. It looks like a kid trying to sell their mom on why they should get a new bike. "I can get milk from the store for you, and lots of exercise" sounds great, but we know it's for personal enjoyment first and foremost. Nobody is fooled by the ruse.

Cannabis has therapeutic effects as a reactionary drug, i.e. you take it after you've been diagnosed, it also stands to reason that it has preventative effects as well, so as to prevent the development of cancer and such.

Just like vitamin C prevents scurvy as well as treats it.
