When you died, you could often just push a button to retry immediately.
None of this three seconds of watching your dead body go ragdoll, three seconds of "game over" screen fading in, three seconds until you get the "continue/exit" options, three seconds of confirmation sound and animation, fifteen seconds of loading screen stuff. Yeah but a lot of old games also started you over at the beginning of the game when you died.

Turbam is correct. Dynamite Headdy wasted no time respawning you, but the damn localization gives you no continues. Ristar, meanwhile, took its sweet ass time unless you were killed by Greedy's black hole, but at least you have way more chances to try again.

I didn't say it nullified any other things old video games did poorly. Just that it would have been a nice feature to keep.
