Not a director but the writer Akiva Goldsman. This is the same guy who wrote the screenplays for I am Legend, Winter's Tale, I, Robot and Batman & Robin.

He has a special talent for writing sub par adaptions for great works of fiction, and is one of the writers for The Dark Tower. Why?

So he's basically David S. Goyer lite?

M Knight is unfortunate. He just relied too heavily on his twist endings for the works he wrote, people came to expect them and were always let down when they "twist" was really dumb or predictable....then he could only catch on to garbage projects. The 6th Sense, Unbreakable...a lot of his movies are really well shot and cinematic. Its the writing in the later projects that give him that stigma imo...

Pretty much. I'm sure hollywood execs love him because he's a surefire money spinner even if fans of the source material will never be happy with the result.

The "somehow" implies that I'm referring to a number of potential reasons as to why the aforementioned directors are still getting work.
Someone made a similar post and I elaborated that money is certainly part of the many reasons why these directors "somehow" continue to get hired.

Is he? You can't say his films don't bring in the cash. All 4 Transformers films made money and engergized a failing toy line. I'd argue with every choice that guy makes in a film, but you can't say that he doesn't succeed in where he chooses to invest his efforts. Hasbro cant stop throwing money at the guy.

Yes, he is. He may bring in money but that doesn't change the fact that he's a straight up hack at what he does. His films will never win any awards except for Razzie's.

This.

Transformers last Knight looks like the most fucking stupid thing ever.

What the fuck does this Medieval shit have to do with anything? Why do they still waste time making a human the main character? Why is Optimus prime being made evil? Seriously the brainwashed hero thing is so damn cliche.

Also that one trailer laying on the political/social messaging with the subtlety of a fucking supernova further turned me off what already looked like a shitshow.

I completely disagree, his movies are very well shot, they have great action sequences, he knows how to tell a story. His movies are basic, yes, but he is very good at what he does, even if what he does isn't what you'd call cinematic art. I'm not a fan of his, I haven't watched any of the Transformers movies, I only really enjoyed The Island... and Bad Boys is one of the best action comedies of the past few years. He has a lot of merit, imo. There are a lot of people who try to be as good as he is at filming a fast paced tense action sequence and they fall short. You can't say he doesn't have talent, because it's not just anybody who can make the kind of movies he makes, no matter what budget they have.

Echoing this - my first Bay film was The Rock, and that was highly lauded by critics as well as successful. Iirc, even Ebert gave it four stars, and it really showed how an action movie can be engrossing and pulse quickening.
