I have a friend like this and it gets annoying. For example, he'll tell me stuff like "You're still on 360? You gotta get an Xbox One" and I'm just thinking "But it sucks and I would barely use it". Or when Cortana came out he told me it was so cool and I gotta check it out and I'm like "Or I could just find stuff by typing it into google".


It's fine to want to be on top of tech trends but it's obnoxious how people get excited over the littlest things that seem cool on the surface but don't actually add any real interesting functionality.

Yeah, I have a friend who is so obsessed with his computer staying up to date it's clear he is addicted.

Had a friend whose dad was constantly upgrading video cards and never actually doing anything with them besides watching little cg test videos to check the performance, he would seriously buy like 20 video cards a year

I call that a source of cheap barely used video cards.

With mental illnesses slowly being expanded on over time, I wonder if this counts as one. Or could it be a form of OCD? Hell, is internet/gaming/hobby addiction officially seen as a form of mental illness?

I remember him also being really on-board with VR even though there's a saturation of brands trying to enter the market right now and it's not a sure-thing as a viable piece of tech. I get that it could potentially be pretty cool, but I don't like to jump into things like that. Lots of technology that sounded cool at first quickly flamed out and became forgotten.
