Yes, in that you had to stop driving to do that. The seconds that takes gets added to the life of the tires.
However, if you stopped quickly or speed away quickly then the life is lost. Also if you pulled over the turn will have reduced the life. Basically you have to on the highway, shift to neutral and allow the car to slow to a stop. Do not steer off the road. Then you can get out, stick it, get back in and idle back up to speed very gently. By doing this, the tire life will increase by about 30 seconds each time --- He who stumbles around in darkness with a stick is blind.
