Well, you see, when someone commits genocide, it kind of overshadows a lot of things.

History isn't pretty. Deal with it. Accept it. You cannot ignore the things that he did right. It was the 1830's - a lot of this crap was acceptable at that time. Doesn't make Jackson a good person - I just pointed out that he averted a crisis with South Carolina.

Would you say the same for bloodthirsty dictators. Hitler did a lot of good too, but does that mean we should overlook the Holocaust

I feel that with the Republican gains in Congress, the fire eaters would've moved on from Lincoln to Congress had he not won the presidency. The result is the same though, as you noted.
