It's far as hell though (30 minute drive from where I live in Tempe), but its really awesome, only went there once last week but definitely want to go for more special events they offer, and hopefully they start opening more theaters in Phoenix too. The majority disagrees because they put on their rose tinted glasses before they stepped in the theater. The action scenes were entertaining and well done (for the most part), but the overall story and characters were really really poor. My biggest complaint is the character development; we already knew the story of rogue one because of the opening crawl of the original Star Wars, so in order to make the movie interesting they needed good action scenes and good characters. And they completely failed with the characters. Jyn Erso went from "this isn't my fight" to giving multiple motivational speeches in a matter of minutes, with little to no development leading up to that. Cassian Andor started as the grizzly "get the job done" kinda guy, even killing someone he was working with in the beginning to secure his own escape. And then couldn't kill Galen Erso because he felt bad for/ had feelings for Jyn. Even though they only talked a few times at that point? It was way outa character. Chirrut and Baze were decent enough characters if not a little under developed. I don't have much complaints about them. It was cool to see a non-Jedi/Sith character worship the force. Forest Whitaker's character was the most useless in the whole movie. And died for next to no reason. Bodhi was another decent yet under developed character, he got the most interesting towards the end of the movie but then died moments later. He also had that interaction with the 'brain drain' alien, which was supposedly dangerous because it could leave him brain dead, but that mattered for all of 5 minutes, then he was back to normal like nothing happened. The action was good enough, except I was disappointed in the beginning to see that Storm Trooper shooting everywhere and missing. That was a shitty adumbration the Lucas used because he didn't know how to direct decent ground combat scenes and still have the heroes live. Sadly Rogue One did the same thing. The better scene was at the end, but that because they were actually allowing a fair fight, to kill the characters off. It's like there was a good movie in there somewhere, but the lack of character development didn't allow me to actually care for the characters when they ~~inevitably died~~. And that is my constructive opinion on the movie.
