Iirc it says this, not raised religious, but it would defintitely be counter to what most anthropologists believe.

actually the bible says everyone was gathered together into one area near the cradle of civilzation after the flood in babylon region

God didn't like this so he magically made them speak different languages and they separated throughout the whole world

At no point does it say this.

Some have tried to say the same thing about Cain, but nowhere in the Bible does it specify that someone became the first black person.

right but that doesn't keep good Christians from using it to advocate for slavery and general racism.

Nope. We're all decended from Adam and Eve--and also from Noah--or else there's no point to any of it.

God cursed a kid named Ham and he became the first black guy or something

Well... it was actually Noah who did the cursing, and it was actually Canaan, who was his grandson, that he cursed, even though it was Ham, Canaan's father and Noah's son, that he was mad at. I never understood why he didn't curse Ham instead. Or was it Shem? I can't gt their names straight.

And some people do claim this is where black people came from but honestly I have no idea where they got this idea.

Religious literalism isn't something that was practiced in large scale until relatively recently, and even then most Christian people nowadays look at the Bible as a series of lessons and morals told through stories rather than a history book.

well Adam was a red man, it is the meaning of his name
the rest we don't know

also the canaan thing is because the canannites were a black tribe, so it is suggested the progenitor of the tribe must have been black

also Ham means dark

Literally trying to rationalize an allegory from a religious text for anthropological answers.

Not saying that about the Tower of Babel story. I think it's a great metaphor. It's possible that the text meant to also suggest that the Word was spread out as well. By doing this, the truth, as that's what "Word" refers to in the Bible, would have been spread out, making it so that the religions have part of the complete message, but not the entirety of it in any one single religion.

Languages yes. And technically wouldn't have been all of them. I would guess those are all dead now, or only used academically.

Not sure about races but I don't remember reading anything that sounded like that happened then.

Incidentally, it's a theme in several shin megami games that the end days will come about again if we reach a point like the tower of babel. Where humans of different tongues work alongside one another as equals.

As you can imagine, the "kill god" routes in these games is the most satisfying.

No, all are descended from Adam according to the Bible. After the flood, they were congregated in the middle eastern cradle of civilization. At some point, one particular group decided to build a tower that would reach the heavens. This angered God, so he cursed them to all suddenly speak different languages. According to the Bible, this is the origin of all languages. As for skin color, there is some debate but IIRC, Abraham had three sons and one was 'cursed' and some groups interpreted his black skin to be a part of this curse. This is a bit more controversial, though.

That is according to the Bible, anyway.

The bible describes how the different peoples in the area surrounding Israel descended from Noah's three sons.

Ham and Shem are the etymological roots of Hamitic and Semitic. Japeth's descendants lived in the direction of Europe, so he would be the forefather of the Aryans. 19th century racial scientists classified all three of those under the "Caucasian" umbrella. Asians, southern Africans, Americans, Australians etc. are not handled by the bible at all. This is only natural, as it's written from an Israel/Egypt point of view, and their knowledge of the world only reached so far.

Not quite.

When Noah got drunk and passed out, Ham (or whichever son it was) took a cloth and covered him. For some reason, when Noah woke up, he got angry over what Ham did and cursed his descendants to be slaves.

Slave owners used this to justify slavery because Ham supposedly was dark-skinned.
