When you establish a conversation with someone and they show interest in meeting you and you organize a time and place. Then they keep blowing you off and eventually just don't reply to your messages anymore. So you had every reason to believe they were interested in you but then they just stop messsaging for some mysterious reason.

I fucking hate that. If you weren't interested initially then I get why you wouldn't respond. But to establish all that rapport and waste my time and then just fade away without so much as an explanation or apology is just rude.

Also on dating things where you have to match first before being able to talk (tinder and a few others have that). If you clicked yes on me, and we matched, I expect you to respond when I come talk to you.

because honestly a lot of young people have really poor social skills and there's no real established social rules in place on how to reject someone online. we are the first generation to date online so we are just figuring things out

It's likely that someone who does this is talking with multiple people and when they stop talking to you they have chosen someone else. It's crappy and it would be nice to know why they stopped talking to you but they are either afraid and choose silence or they think they are leaving a door open in case their choice doesn't pan out.

When I online dated if I had a conversation of some length and then she just went silent I would message until I was given the basic respect of being told they weren't interested. Never mean, never vulgar. But I'm not a piece of garbage, don't treat me as such.

TC - how many times has this happened. Or with how many different people?

Often enough for me to consider it a pattern of behavior that some people do.

I guess I can accept that she just wasn't all that interested, but I feel it's rude to engage all that time and effort and make plans and then to pull out without a word.

And no, I didn't say anything creepy or anything. It was more just like a complete drop off in interest levels for whatever reason. Probably what @Melonfarms said.

Ive never done online dating but id say anything goes, I think men make more advances and are far more likely to be rejected so just react however you want. Dont worry about chivalry.

I dunno. I could see sending such an explanation as an opening to have the rejected person attempt to continue to make their case, or chew the person out for wasting their time.

Maybe you just sound boring? Or they had second thoughts, swiped by accident etc...

Then they can just unmatch me if they think so.
