CoD WWII just came out and big surprise, same old premise yet again. How many games have done this to death already? Do people think WWII is only about Nazi Germans, USA, Russia, Britain, heroes vs baddies, yadada, totally ignoring the rest of the world? It wouldn't be a world war otherwise.

Why is there not a single game in existence that tries covering other theatres of the war? Like the Japanese and Asiatic Pacific theater for a good example. The Japanese occupation over Asia, the British struggle for control, from Singapore to Hong Kong, Philipines, the huge war theatre over at China where the Japanese dominated over the Chinese, the rise of rebels etc.

Have they confirmed that it will only be in the west?

Also if this is a success, you can pretty much fucking guarantee that they are going to want to keep milking it, which naturally means expanding into content like fighting the Japanese

They covered the Pacific Ocean battles, which obviously...had to involve the US or it wouldnt have been covered. No coverage at all on the South Pacific, South West and South East regions, which btw, had lots of s**** going on as well, involving Australia and UK empire.

yeah sure, fighting the Japanese in the Pacific war only, like all movies, games and TV shows ever do. Why can't they take some cues from BF1? BF1's campaign actually did span round the world, not just focusing on the Western Front (where the popular misconception that trench warfare is ''everything WW1'' was derived from)

TC doesn't remember COD 1, UO or CoD2 which all featured the Soviets.

I think your best hope is that this WW2 reboot is so successful that they make so many expansions/sequels that they end up covering all these lesser emphasized theaters of the war. I could also see them doing an exclusively Soviet themed expansion/sequel, so expect that in the works.

and TC is only thinking about the big budget console shooters. On PC there are plenty of WWII games which don't focus only on the western front

I do. In fact, I've played all the classic games on PC, including the very underrated United Offensive. That's what did differentitate CoD franchise in the beginning. At that time, 2003, all other WWII games (Medal of Honor, BF, Hidden and Dangerous) only focused on the American's point-of-view in the war, like the whole war revolved around them SMH...

CoD1 was the first to break that barrier, to venture to the Soviets, to the British, to the Italians. Still, they've never touched the rest of the world, especially in Asia.

Now here I was hoping CoD WWII would be different. Nope, same s****. In fact, this time the devs said they'd focus very specifically on just a certain part of the war to tell a 'story'. Not even wider, more narrower instead.

It's so they can make as many games as possible. Only focusing on this narrow specific part of the war gives them the rest of the war to make more games on.

tell me of a game that covers places like the Japanese-Sino war then. The Conquest of Burma, occupation of IndoChina, invasion of Malaya (now known as Malaysia), Singapore. Their triumph, their hellish invasion and occupation. The Rape of Nanking, the Chinese massacre etc.

Do you even WWII, bro?

how do you even make a game centered around these. That's like asking why there's no Holocaust game.

You do realise that the majority of the games fan base are American, Canadian, British, etc. right? So of course they are going to focus on the aspects of the war that involved those countries. A game that covered the IndoChina or any other purely Asian aspects of the war would completely bomb. No one would buy it and making/selling games is a business so they aren't going to risk 10's of millions of dollars on a game that would likely sell like shit. If western powers aren't at the forefront of the game then it will sell like garbage.

Never played as a prisoner-of-war before? As some ordinary citizen trying to escape or fight his way through the chaos? CoD has done that in their WWII campaigns before. It's not uncommon for other war games either, that innovate over the player always being a standard soldier.
The Japanese occupation also gave rise to rebellions and espionage. There's always a gameplay to be made out of the war.
