Because the people on it where chosen to go to a magic island, an island that's always moving and can't be tracked, so they could arbitrarily decided on a new protector of the magic island.
Anyone who manages to get off isn't able to tell anyone about it and they'll be forced to go back eventually.

ive seen the equipment air traffic controllers use, they absolutely do track planes over oceans. the gps in a plane is way better than the gps in a phone or car, gps isnt the only technology used for tracking a plane, also, planes come with EPIRBS that will work anywhere under any circumstances and will self activate in the case of a crash
