because it's illegal

not because of its inherent properties

not to say people can't be criminally negligent while on it, but i have a suspicion those people were already criminally negligent in nature

this might be a legit complaint, except i think people primarily stick indoors due to its legal status

like if weed were legal tomorrow and apartments made it a policy of no smoking indoors, then you'd see a lot more people toking outside

Could be, could be.

By the way, I'm not a weed smoker myself, but I do think it tends to have a more pleasant odor than some certain brand cigarettes, if that's saying anything.

The same way tobacco and alchohol ruins lives as well, except both of them are legal on a federal level.

The harmful and damaging effects of marijuana are real, and too often just brushed aside.

Also, they are less harmful and damaging than the enforcement of its illegality.

In a way; yes. Tobacco is the only one that is 'less' likely to ruin lives (well, in the short term). Alcohol has a pretty easy way to detect on the spot and, like pot, can ruin lives in the short term. The thing with pot is it cannot be detected on the spot, so it is harder to enforce 'legal' consumption.

The fact that some will resort to stealing in order to fuel their drug habit, yes I would consider that as a factor in ruining lives. And why would those folks resort to criminal actions to fund their marijuana use? Because Marijuana is addictive.

https://www.drugabuse.gov/publications/research-reports/marijuana/marijuana-addictive
http://healthland.time.com/2010/10/19/is-marijuana-addictive-it-depends-how-you-define-addiction/
http://www.webmd.com/mental-health/addiction/news/20001127/heavy-pot-use-can-cause-physical-dependence#1
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2797098/

although some people question the concept of marijuana dependence or addiction, diagnostic, epidemiological, laboratory, and clinical studies clearly indicate that the condition exists, is important, and causes harm. Marijuana dependence as experienced in clinical populations appears very similar to other substance dependence disorders, although it is likely to be less severe. Adults seeking treatment for marijuana abuse or dependence average more than 10 years of near-daily use and more than six serious attempts at quitting. They continue to smoke the drug despite social, psychological, and physical impairments, commonly citing consequences such as relationship and family problems, guilt associated with use of the drug, financial difficulties, low energy and self-esteem, dissatisfaction with productivity levels, sleep and memory problems, and low life satisfaction. Most perceive themselves as unable to stop, and most experience a withdrawal syndrome upon cessation.

Yes, a normal person can commit theft. But it's more likely to happen in cases where someone is engaged in an activity that develops a dependency which require money to sustain.

Cigarettes are legal and available at practically every corner grocery stores, which New York has shit tons of.
Yet you have folks like Eric Garner trying to hawk singles for cheaper.

The same will go for Marijuana. Licenses, paying for employees, for the store location, taxes, etc, will prompt a markup in order to make a profit.
A price that low income folks can't afford, folks more prone to turning to crime to fuel their habit, and thus will turn to illegal dealers, just as they do in New York for Cigarettes.
