I played it back when I was around eleven (13-14 years ago) so I enjoyed it and felt it played well without a light gun but given the age and time length, it may not be accurate. It was a fun little addition though. I really wish it was a TPS or even an FPS. I'd kill for more Dino Crisis, I want Regina back and for some reason I was heavily invested in the second game's story. Not sure how I'd want them to format it though, Dino Crisis 2 was good because it separated itself from Resident Evil but ironically modern Resident Evil plays closer to Dino Crisis 2 (barring 7).
