Miami-Dade Commissioners are honoring the Oscar-winning gay drama Moonlight by naming a street in Liberty City “Moonlight Way”.

The Miami New Times reports:

“This movie — at least what I got from it — really depicts the life of how a lot of us were raised and what we had to go through and endure as children in the inner city,” says Commissioner Audrey Edmonson, who is sponsoring the item. “This goes out to children still living here in the inner city that are told they’ll never amount to anything. It shows that it doesn’t matter how you were raised or where you grew up; you can still turn out to be someone.”

Edmonson’s resolution, which calls Moonlight “a timeless and universal story of human connection and self-discovery,” would designate NW 22nd Avenue from NW 61st Street to NW 66th Street as “Moonlight Way.”

Anyone else watch Moonlight? I thought it was pretty damn good.

Agreed.

I'm glad it's getting the recognition it deserves.

I honestly thought Lala land was better and the casting looking nothing similar like the "past" versions. It was still a very good movie.

So is that gonna be a steeet where you get handy js?

Lala Land is good, albeit very safe.

I love Moonlight for the fact that it's so audacious and profound. The message of the film:

“This movie — at least what I got from it — really depicts the life of how a lot of us were raised and what we had to go through and endure as children in the inner city,” says Commissioner Audrey Edmonson, who is sponsoring the item. “This goes out to children still living here in the inner city that are told they’ll never amount to anything. . . . is absolutely beautiful.

ow you were raised or where you grew up; you can still turn out to be someone

Lol a drug dealer?!

To me the message was mostly about the dangers of hyper masculinity especially in the black community and how that problem is exacerbated with kids who come from non-stable homes

Yeah but that dealer didn't close himself off from love and feelings like he ended up doing because he needed to be the big man. They talk about it in the restaurant.

I didn't say it was a good thing, but it was the best way (from his eyes) with coping with the world and not being a victim.
