I love when certain people try to tell me, a minority, that hate speech/crimes don't exist

I question the value of protected classes and categorising abuse, I'd love a system where breach of the peace, abuse or threatening behaviour are the keys and not any racial component. I'm conflicted about it, I'm anti-censorship in general and I think that prosecuting as "hate" crimes creates a situation that drives racism underground. I for example would rather my old granddad was spouting racist rubbish openly in public where I can confront, contradict and inform him otherwise rather than sitting on facebook posting racism with other racists that will confirm his prejudices and allow him to keep them secret.

I'm not in a minority and I obviously have a limited understanding of the negative effects of hate crimes directly on people like yourself. I'd appreciate your input and help in understanding more fully.

Also the law has pretty clear definitions of hate speech and I think the majority of them have a clause about inciting violence or disturbance, etc

Basically if you're becoming so hateful that it's starting to have serious negative impacts, physical or otherwise, it's time to stop.
