The controversy is mostly recent sparked by biased afro-centrists. Pretty much every ancient writer who came into contact with Egyptians could tell them from other peoples. From Assyrian kings and Judean writers to even the ancient Greeks; the Greeks commonly put different ethnic groups together (Assyrians/Arameans & Medes/Persians) they had no problems telling Egyptians apart from Ethiopians/Kushites --- sig ... And funny how Egyptian geneticists still refuse to give us all the details of their genetic studies on the mummies. I suspect they're afraid of letting the modern Egyptian population find out that they are not descendants of the original Egyptians, but rather the barbarian invaders and settlers that came long after Egypt's decline as a cultural and military power.

That's a half-truth. By the time Greeks and Romans came into contact with the Egyptians, the greatness of Egypt had long passed and the racial composition of the population had changed dramatically. We know that in Norther/Central Europe, the population was a lot differently genetically and phenotypically 5000 years ago than it is today. The same is true for Egypt. Even if this were true (DNA tests show Egyptians weren't too affected by foreign invadors, ethnically), it doesn't explain how the Assyrians and Judeans distinguished an Ethiopian from an Egyptian. Or even the Egyptians themselves. Ammonitida posted... And the great Ramsese III has been confirmed as a black African through testing of his Y-DNA which was E1a. It would only confirm that he likely had a black ancestor somewhere down the line. By this logic my cousins who are black would be considered Chinese because of their Y-chromosome DNA. Actually I looked up the Y chromosome data, it is found in Egypt and North Africa (or Libyans) populations and relatively low frequencies, it is also found in peoples of the Arabian peninsula. --- sig ...
