These past few years I often heard on the news and blogs stories about cops arresting/pepper-spraying/etc students in school (like I don't know, 10-12 year olds or something)

Seriously, what's up with that?

I'm 33 so it's been a long time since I was in school at that age. But back in the 90s I don't remember ever seeing cops in school. And it's not like if I was going to rich kid schools or something like that

And I've seen backyard fights (including on one occasion one kid was actually beat up all bloodied... didn't see the fight myself but they ended the recess when it happened). Kids got suspended, or put in detention, etc. But when a kid was being dumb it was handled by the teachers and staff.

I had some tantrums myself and I did some dumb things like many kids that age, and was disciplined accordingly.

But I would have never ever ever dreamed that actual fucking police officers would be involved.

Seriously, wtf?

Did something happen in the 90s to make school staff unable to take care of problems?

Or do we absolutely want adults to have police records because of tantrums they had when they were 12 year olds?

I was in high school in the mid-2000's and we always had a cop on site.

Before I started there, there was a kid who had a pipe bomb (or said he did) in his locker, so that probably had a lot to do with it. Plus they were constantly bringing in dogs to sniff lockers for drugs.

Yeah, I'm 25 and had at least one cop (or a guy dressed like one, at least) on-site every single day in high school and (I think) middle school. I also vaguely remember hearing dogs in the hallways during classes, but I may be making that up just because I saw that post.

This shit started happening more in the 00s, as far as I know. Though my high school did have at least one cop on site.

Also, schools seem to be scared shitless of being sued by parents for their kids being disciplined, so they do shit like not properly stepping in with stopping bullies, freaking out over even the imagery of a gun (such as the incident of a kid biting his goddamn Pop-Tart into a shape of a gun), and zero tolerance where even the kid defending himself from bullies gets expelled.
