The people who say that (and trust me I know it's a big crowd) have never listened to KimJust have them listen to that song and they'll probably do a complete 180 on him

Like, the guy do touches on some real stuff and he can have some silly songs here or there. But I just find it hilarious when people believe that he don't have the occasional "money, bitches cars, etc." song:

It's always creepy when someone is like, 25 and still bitching about how bad their mom was growing up. I mean he's not really doing that because he even has problems with her anymore. He knows his audience is adolescent boys. And honestly he sends them the shittiest possible message about how to deal with bad parental role models.

You say that like the problems he had growing up weren't substantial. You can't look at your life and your story and try to compare your experience to somebody else. What he went through is unique, and the way he channels it is unique. How many 25-year olds went back and killed their parents for being abusive, or shut them out, or stole from them, or whatever? Him writing music about how horrible she was isn't bad. And I see no problem bitching about having parents as awful as his.

And though I do agree he sends an absolutely awful message about how to deal with bad parental role models, every rapper sends bad messages about pretty much everything. There aren't many rappers that are sending good messages like "love you family, do your chores, get a job, and do community service" lol.

I think letting your upbringing or parents entirely define your mood and thoughts signifies a narrow and medicore mind. That's both if you had a bad childhood or if you had a good childhood. Whenever someone says their hero is one of their parents, I vomit a little bit.

The folks who drop the "Eminem raps about real shit while other rappers don't" bit usually just haven't actually listened to other rappers.

His first two albums I always got a kick out of, but I think a lot of that was because I was 13 years old when I heard both of them, so it was right in that age range where the were marketed towards and such. Plus the late 90s were all about being extreme and edgy, between stuff like South Park, WWF, Jerry Springer, etc, and Eminem fit right into that. But there was always cringey and stupid stuff he rapped about. There were some "deeper" stuff too, but he also had stuff like a song about a chick taking shrooms and freaking out about it, so yeah.
