Board 8 > California Family LOSES against PETCO after their 10 y/o DIED from a RAT BITE!!.

A California family has their lawsuit against PETCO after they sought 20 MILLION in damages after their 10 y/o son died after contracting an illess from bacteria of their pet rat that they bought at the store!!

The jury of 12 in San Diego found Petco was not negligent or liable for the death of Aidan Pankey on June 12, 2013 after he was rushed to hospital from severe stomach pains.

The official cause of death was strep moniliformis infection, aka Rat-Bite Fever after exposure to an infected rat....

The jury said Petco did enough to warn the family of the possible risks and dangers of owning a pet rat and therefore not negligent in the boy's death

Aidan's grandmother, Sharon Pankey was the one who BOUGHT the rat for Aiden said "Educating consumers is important. I think Petco could do a better job on their warnings and on education of people that buy rats. If you buy a rat from Petco, you can request they be tested for rat-bite fever. I never knew that. I never knew that a store like Petco would sell a rat that had such a high percentage of carrying it. I thought rat-bite fever was something wild rats carried."

She bought it because he wanted a MALE rat to marry his FEMALE rat he already had..they picked out "Alex" together at Petco. It was only 2 weeks after they bought the rat that Aiden grew sick from and ill from the flu-like symptoms he got from the bite.
