I'm afraid that I won't understand a lot of the mechanics and I'll miss shit and it will cause my characters to suck.

The game has a very detailed and long tutorial. You can always refer back to them too if you don't understand something. As for missing things? Well that depends what you do with your free time. I don't see any possible way your characters could suck though.

It's super easy. There's depth but nothing really confusing about any of it. I'd say the most intimidating thing would be fusion but even then, it's still very simple and easy to pick up.

never played 1. I will say 3 is the least easiest one I've played, there are a few parts where it can be randomly difficult, but in general it still is fairly easy most of the time.

Yeah its pretty easy to fuck yourself. You have to be an avid multi-saver. However, P5 is one of the most forgiving of the series but I'd never say the game is easy if you're playing on hard. Also at this point SMT and Persona are only marginally different. Hell i'm not sure there is a difference between PQ and SMT other than PQ has actual dungeons with interesting puzzles and characters that don't suck shit.

making the wrong fusions, not doing the right social links, or not doing them enough, doing things in the wrong order that prevents social links from even happening, not doing things to make certain requests appear.

like you can literally rank social links up too fast, which makes certain requests not even happen.

i think the most common one right now is ranking moon up too fast, which causes you to not be able to rank moon up, period.

In my play-through I ranked Moon up as fast as I could and did'y have a problem. I don't really think there are any "right" social links either. And you pretty much always have access to the velvet room with it's compendium and now P5 even auto registers Persona's when you get them.

I don't know why either. There's a period he's not around and you just end up telling yourself you're tired and have to go to bed. Morgana is no aigis but i like him a lot.

P3 main cast is fine. I'd back you up on the boring for the P4. Chie/Yukiko/Yosuke were so fucking boring. I didn't mind teddie much though. Kanji and Naoto basically carried that cast.

But even the dullest persona characters look like complex and fascinating master pieces compared to SMT characters which are just a mess of UGH.

I got sucked in today and didn't save for 8 hours.
I get it.

I kept even telling myself "I should save" and then I would just be like "I just gotta do this one thing" and it kept going.

Anyways, this game is fun, but like the others, it's made for at least 2 runs. One to get the hang of it and then NG+.

I wouldn't worry about it and just have fun and do whatever. Maybe you don't wanna do two games, then you could try and use a guide, but eh, that kind of sucks the fun out of a first run imo.

Also, Morgana sucks and Ryuji is an idiot.

Well, if I had to compare the P3 cast and P5 cast:
*Spoilers*
Junpei > Ryuji
Koromaru/Aigis > Morgana
Yukari < Ann
Akihiko/Shinji = Yusuke/Akechi (I can't choose between them!)
Mitsuru < Makoto (Although it's close.)
Fuuka < Futaba

Haru is too bland and Ken is the worst imo.

The casts of P3 and P5 are pretty even imo.
