sort of like the gauntlets but not quite, like specifically meant to give as close as possible to a fair ranking by comparing everything against everything else, sort of like FlickChart (which is just for movies) or CollegeHumor's toplists
I think I remember something like this being used in the Pokemon rankings about a year ago? Maybe @Steiner would know what I'm referring to? --- Khal Kirby, warlord of the Super Star Khalasar PSN/Steam: CheddarBBQ http://i.imgur.com/sRNNOSP.png ... Copied to Clipboard!

I use Excel for this. I make a bracket of, say, 128 things, then run every single match to get my #1 favourite, then I just remove it from the bracket and redo all the matches it was involved in to get a #2, and so on.
Of course, an automated version would be wonderful. But it is quite fun to do it in excel. (Well, "fun" if you're a ranking nerd, like many of us b8ers are lol) ... Copied to Clipboard!

Can you make the bracket directly in Excel? How accurate do you think that method tends to be in determining the ranking? --- Khal Kirby, warlord of the Super Star Khalasar PSN/Steam: CheddarBBQ http://i.imgur.com/sRNNOSP.png ... You can do this with the gauntlet programs fairly easily --- profDEADPOOL posted with GameRaven "I am one with the Force and the force is with me." ... Copied to Clipboard!

@Paratroopa1 made a perfect sorter for pokemon which can easily be modified to work for anything. as long as your preferences are perfectly transitive it should work out everything pretty easily

Thing is, I never actually managed to get the gauntlet program to run on my computer. Spent like an hour trying to diagnose the issue with Wickle and never got it to work --- Khal Kirby, warlord of the Super Star Khalasar PSN/Steam: CheddarBBQ http://i.imgur.com/sRNNOSP.png ... @Delseban
Thanks for the bracket idea; I've been using it and it's been a lot of fun. Only thing is I'm ranking closer to 200 items so it's taking quite a long time. --- Khal Kirby, warlord of the Super Star Khalasar PSN/Steam: CheddarBBQ http://i.imgur.com/sRNNOSP.png ... Copied to Clipboard!

It's pretty easy. If I can figure out how to host a text file (the code is longer than a gamefaqs post allows) I could just give it to you. It's pretty nice, it just works by transitive property and goes through matches until it has a 100% comprehensive list, so if you say you like red more than blue, then it guarantees that red is higher on the list than blue, and also higher than everything you said you liked blue more than. It still takes a lot of matches for a big list though! ... Copied to Clipboard!

Can you make the bracket directly in Excel? How accurate do you think that method tends to be in determining the ranking? I make the bracket in excel using fill colors, here is an example from when I was doing video game rankings: Like you said, it is time-consuming, because you have to do every match and then when you remove the winner, you redo all the matches it was in so it's like 8 decisions to get to the next entry on the list. But it's the most accurate, because everything has to go up against things in such a way that you know the ranking is accurate, there's never a question of "if the matches were different, would the result be different" ...
