It is top 10 I would say after rewatching it a couple months ago.

Pretty sure most critic lists have In the Mood for Love (which is great too) slightly above Mulholland Dr. but they are definitely top 2 on lists

Mulholland drive is one of the most fascinating movies Ive ever seen. Multiple viewings dont help with any of the questions you have while watching it. Its incredible and perhaps Lynch's best. Best movie in a decade that im not so sure of. You ask a lot of your audience in a movie like this and its very challenging. Certainly most of the people who will respond to this post will either have never seen it, heard of it, or will hate it outright. its not easy entertainment

The scene in the restaurant where Dan is explaining his dream is pretty incredible. I want to watch it again now

I'm actually surprised at the amount of love the movie is getting so far. It doesn't strike me as a movie message board dwellers would enjoy because it is artsy and doesn't tell a straight-forward story.

I'm not really a big fan of Sorkin and the whole movie kind of felt like a teleplay.

Clearly ain't yours. The day you got DSL must have been a great one for you because that meant the phone jack was finally open for you to stick your butter churner into it.

The major well known accolades (Oscars, SAG, Globes, BAFTA) are all given by industry or press, not critics. Back in 2001 it got quite a lot of accolades from critics, plus its reputation has far grown since then.

Citizen Kane also didn't win many accolades at the time either. Generally great movies tend to grow in reputation with time, or are overlooked entirely in their time because they don't really fit the mold of what is commercially or even artistically popular

Here is an article about what I'm talking about - in fact it is a broader accolade than what I indicated, it is of the 21st century so far

http://www.newsweek.com/david-lynch-classic-mulholland-drive-voted-best-movie-21st-century-492688

Glancing at the list again... little shocked that There Will Be Blood being so high up there. Controversially perhaps, but I might even like Punch Drunk Love better than that movie.

It's been a really really long time since I've seen it, but I remember being very let down by it. It goes on too long and it seems more experimental than what Mulholland Drive was, which had parts that didn't add up and scenes that felt like they were from different movies, but it all sort of felt like the same thing regardless? Whereas Inland Empire viewed like David Lynch was dicking around for a couple years with digital filmmaking and then suddenly realized, "Shit I have to put all of this into a movie somehow! But none of this fits together at all!... who care's do it anyway!"

The rabbits shit was gold though

Inland Empire is definitely the most unnerving/scariest film I have seen in my life. Not a film I love but definitely remarkable.

And nice list Haino, been dying to see the Mekas for such a long time, but considering its length I never find the time to watch it in one sitting. Same goes for Tarr's Satantango, which I embarrassingly haven't seen yet.

Downfall is also extremely underrated. It's considered a great movie but never top ten great. But it really is, particularly as a World War 2 movie that focuses on an extremely interesting yet never dramatically explored part of that war (the final moments of the Third Reich).

Mullholand Drive is definitely the best David Lynch film, but I like a lot of films from that decade more.

You really like Summer Hours that much? Man, I remember seeing it back in college and coming out of it feeling completely empty. The rest of your list seems pretty solid though.

But no, Mulholland Drive wouldn't be anywhere near my own top 10. Though Inland Empire, also by Lynch, certainly is. For reference, my own top 10 for 2000-2009 looks something like:

1. Ghost World
2. Inland Empire
3. Punch Drunk Love
4. Lost in Translation
5. Talk to Her
6. Zodiac
7. 4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days
8. Lady Vengeance
9. Mary and Max
10. Minority Report

@wah_wah_wah, have you seen the web series the Rabbits scenes were culled from? It's pretty awesome.

@madadude, I love Satantango. Definitely try to see it when you find the time. I'd love to read the novel eventually.

It's a great movie and I enjoyed watching it but I'm not sure I'd put it in the top ten. What Nolan ended up doing later diminishes my appreciation for what he did in Memento. Like after that movie he always had to make these high concept movies that had a funky structure to them. I guess maybe Inception is the only movie I can think of that emulates that, but yeah. I'm not really a big fan of movies where the most interesting thing about them is how the plot moves along.

Yes I've seen a lot of his short stuff. I loved that cartoon he did, can't remember the name of it
