Board 8 > So why Fate of the Furios bombed in reviews? (spoilers)

Is it another case of elitist "professional reviewers" that can't give a credit to something good just because it's mainstream?
I saw the movie yesterday..and fuck, anyway that saw less than 10% of my posts know that I tend to hate a lot of things
And I must say this movie was fucking beautiful and it annoys me greatly that the so called "metascore" is in all point low for this series - currently sitting at 56, which is 10 points lower than Furious 5, 6 and 7
Because..uh..why exactly? do I really need to read those arrogant reviews?
What do they have to complain about? "the movie doesn't make sense" - invalid, the movie series never made any sense
The first Furious movie I saw was 6 and this is when a tank suddenly appeared out of nowhere, it made face palm so hard but I still enjoyed the movie and it made me watch the rest
Then I saw the 7th movie knowing full well I don't need to expect logic - and I enjoyed it even more

The only thing I think can annoy longtime fans is the lack of a driving race - it used to be so common in the first movies but lately they dropped them and made the movies more of a action movies
In fact the only race in the 8th movie was at the very beginning
But this is the only negative point I think this movie has (well, also Cipher surviving, but she is a good actor so I don't mind so much)

The movie was diverse - from street racing in Cuba to fist fighting at a prison to a rain of cars to chasing a damn submarine
The humor was great, from The Rock cheering his daugther team to the whole plane scene with Shaw and the baby
It also deserves a lot of credit for making me actually feel something for characters I never gave a damn about - I always thought Shaw was "too edgy" but when they said he died it was pretty sad, and I was happy when they revealed he was actually alive
And well Paul Walker death was traumatic but I never cared about Brian as a character, and yet when Dom named the baby Brian it was touching

So yeah, fantastic movie, fuck metascore

3 being high is good
2 being last is amazing - that movie sucked

8 wasn't bad, but it's not the best by any means.

the difference between 56 and 66 on metascore is meaningless. your intro made me think it was going to be 30 vs. 80 or something

8 is what happens when you have a checklist of things that need to be bigger and badder and you have run through the list 4 or 5 times over the course of the series. It can be fun to watch but there are going to be moments when you remember half of this group began as street racers before becoming this top level government strike squad. Hobbs enters the series halfway through as a man strong enough to go toe to toe with Dom and a few movies later he is throwing 3 men at a time across the hall. Tej started the series as a car tuner and is now an elite level hacker and weapons builder. Hell even Roman Pierce got a moment where he became a stone cold quick draw shooter. I think Letty had the most realistic of the fight scenes relatively speaking since she had a bit of a struggle.

If you want to say the series never made any sense I would argue there are levels to what makes sense in a movie compared to real life and that the suspension of disbelief required to watch the first one compared to Fate is just miles apart. Eventually the audience slides from being entertained by the spectacle into thinking something is just too absurd.

It didn't really bomb. It did fine. 64% on RT, 56 Metascore, both above average. Also fourth for the franchise so this seems like a strange thing to complain about.

I haven't seen it yet but I can't help but imagine that there is some fatigue for the series at this point.
