Some even go so far as to say that it sucked from the beginning of season 2 and that only season 1 was any good. How to have such a bizarre thought process I don't know.

It's hilarious because season 1 literally has an episode circle jerking the ipad, that machine that released in 2010 that everyone made fun of because of how pointless it was (neither the capabilities of a pc nor the compact size of a phone) yet ended up being a huge success anyway thanks to idiots ie apple lovers.

So... it doesn't make sense to all of a sudden hate the show after season 1 unless you're the kind of loser that dislikes something once it wins awards and becomes "popular"

It stopped doing anything new or innovative after the second season. That isn't to say it was bad, if you really loved what they had been doing then you weren't suddenly going to find it bad, but people were starting to grow bored of it. To compound the issue it had a stranglehold over the comedy section of the Emmy's, which was fair for the first couple of seasons, but it went on long past that. And it kind of dumbfounded both reviewers and TV watchers. While that isn't the show's fault and more of the product of the Emmy voters at the time being very set-in-their-ways about comedy, it still started building resentment toward the show.

I've watched every single episode, majority of them more than once, and I love the show. Fuck people. Just hoping it gets one more season so it can get a proper finale.

It still gets the highest ratings on ABC for a scripted show and has a large ensemble cast. That means unless a sizable chunk of the cast all decide to quit at once, it's going to keep going on for the indefinite future.

For the past month or so now all I've read is how its ratings have been steadily and surely declining. Coupled with the cast's contracts expiring and them asking for more $ to renew, I keep reading how cancellation isn't unlikely.

It is unlikely. Declining or no it's still ABC's top show. They'll find away to make the deals they need to make to keep it running. People like to speculate about popular shows ending because it's good for hits, but they rarely do solid analysis of the numbers.

I'll be honest, you're making me feel a lot better lol. I seriously google Modern Family every single day hoping to see renewal news.

It's still pulling like 8 million. Other shows by comparison become ongoing even when they're as low as just 2 mil. There's definitely no chance of ever worrying about Modern Family's future. I'm more interested in knowing what future storylines they'll do once the kids are all grown up. I always feel the show is more centered around the parents anyway.

Just FYI, you are using total viewers which is a useless metric that doesn't determine a shows success. What is important is that Modern Family pulls a 2.17 in the 18-49 demo. A full .38 higher than ABC's next highest comedy and .06 higher than their second best rated show.

So that's how it is. I guess it's just one of those shows where the real life community that watches it is much larger than the online community, and there's no overlap. I'm just looking at how the MF reddit subreddit has only a couple hundred comments on episode discussion topics, despite those millions of people watching the show (guess they're the older kind that don't do internet)

By comparison, Community had like thousands of comments in an episode discussion, and that show got canceled. Or rather got slowly hacked to pieces before being put out of its misery.

Another comparison is IASIP, still ongoing, that also gets thousands of comments on the episode discussion and has a really active subreddit despite being the lesser viewed show.

I still enjoy the show and have been watching since around season 3 or 4. I feel like half the episodes are hilarious and the other half are enjoyable but ultimately forgettable. The latter tend to rely heavily on slapstick and goofy plots, or just focus on the breakout characters like Cam or Phil hamming it up. The thing I love about the show is how it will come up with some complex, crazy situation and then pepper it with super clever dialogue and turn of phrase.

Yeah... it's always been like that. I was rewatching season 1 and all the other seasons up to the current one, and there have been really contrived situations for characters to act or behave a certain way. But it really doesn't bother me, since the quality has been pretty consistent these past 8 years.

This past season hasn't been as good, but I've found this show consistently hilarious all the way up until maybe the last two season where it stopped to kind of dip.

Imo I think that the kids were funnier when they were kids and teens.

Baby Lily and the struggles of raising her was funny.

Man, (more) grown up Lily is the best. Fucking love her personality.
