You bump into Janeway at a bar and she hits on you relentlessly.

"He's letting me know... he'll be back."
-Gul Dukat, DS9 "Call to Arms"

We always planned on a sequel. Let's make it happen before Discovery [finally] airs.

With a brand new Trek series presumably around the corner, this will be the last time the small-yet-dedicated B8 Trek crew can rank 'em all collaboratively without the rush of new faces. I figured that means we'd best get started sometime in the next month or two. I don't have an exact date in mind, but if KBM joins, I'd like to wait 'til she's finished with DS9 and Voyager. She's doing a chronological run through both shows for the very first time right now; she's on early Season 6 and early Season 4, respectively.

For now, I figured I'd just make the announcement. I don't know how many we'll rope in this time around but we had eight or nine last time. Anagram, Jesse, Cyril, Eddv, and myself offhand; I know there were more. SBell? Did he play? Sadly, I no longer have access to the old Google Doc, but maybe someone else does.

I'm thinking 50+ in the field again, including all main casts plus several recurring characters. (The lion's share of which will likely stem from DS9 and Enterprise again, I reckon. Just a matter of how the various shows tend to operate. But hey, maybe we'll get folks like Sarek in this time, too?)

Anyway, that's the gist. I don't expect much posting here in the interim, but I figured I'd toss up the announcement. If nothing else, it'll pique Anagram's interest or something. Maybe.

That's actually something I'm pondering. The "heart" of this topic series had a lot to do with the impassioned write-ups, but it may be tricky convincing folks to do a fresh batch of write-ups just a year and a half or so later. Might need to relax those rules or something. Hmm.

Did I do participate last time?

I can still only do TOS characters though. Making my slow way through the first six movies before I begin TNG

True that I've seen TOS and TNG, but only those two. Does this make me qualified to participate? This sounds like fun.

The last time around people ranked as many characters as they wanted. Some people were only familiar with one series and just ranked those characters. I assume it'll be the same way again, which would be good because it's nice to have more people participating.

Ideally, I'd like a healthy number of folks who have seen more than just those two, but I don't think we said no to pj last time for having only seen TOS (without the movies, even) so I certainly won't say no to someone who's seen two shows, Llarian!

I'm leaning toward the beginning of July for this, btw. I know that's kind of a long time from now, but I want to give KBM plenty of time to finish the shows she's watching. She said she's actually thinking of hitting up Enterprise too once she's done with DS9.

Shad, you can spring for it, too, y'know! You should really watch DS9 to completion, though. Last few seasons are so good. At least you'll be adding some Voyager perspective, though!

That one was tough to get through and it managed to make me tired of hearing the TNG theme song, but it's surprisingly a masterpiece next to V.

1 and 5 are the definite duds by any metric, though.

2-4 and 6 (especially 6, IMO) are all very good. 3 gets some flak, and I'll agree it's not as good as the rest, but it's still worth digging into.

It's a good movie. The worst is debatable, but most people say the fifth movie. Personally I think the seventh is worse.

Yeah, IV (the whale one) is really good. Not my favorite, but it's up there. I've found it's also the one Trek film that most everyone I know seems to like, including the people who aren't that into Trek.

Surprisingly enough, it's a very good film. The humor is there in spades. Yes, the premise is absurd, but that's just it -- the film's a comedy. It gives the cast a more ensemble feel than TOS has ever really gotten outside the novelverse, too. Everyone has a moment or five.

I agree generally with the old adage that the even-numbered films are best. I really did enjoy 2, 4, and 6. ST:TMP still holds a special place in my heart, despite being boring to most. 3 was a weird movie despite the cool ending, and 5 was just a trainwreck.

Your thoughts?

Not too far off, really. 6 is my favorite of the pack. I was quite possibly the only kid on earth back in the early-to-mid 90's who watched that movie religiously on VHS. In hindsight, I probably picked it so frequently because it was the only one we owned in official quality; the rest were all bootleg TV recordings. But whatever the reason, I sure did stick with it growing up. I love the vibe, the political tension. This no doubt prepared me to love Deep Space Nine, the most political and darkest of the Treks overall. But I've given you that rap before, so I'll spare you, ha.

2 and 4 are both really good, too. I think I like 3 more than you. It is a weird movie, there's no getting around that. I enjoy the Enterprise heist and the sorrows of Kirk losing his ship and his son in the same flick (although really, we don't get much payoff on David kicking the dirt 'til 6, but hey).

6>2>4>3>>>1>5.

The Final Frontier is a nightmare of a movie.
