I mean, LibreOffice is great as a standalone Suite for the replacement of Microsoft Office. However, the issue is with compatibility across it and Microsoft Office. If you want to be able to switch back and forth between with with little issue, or have someone with the Microsoft Suite access your documents, it's not a perfect solution. But if you are only using it alone, then it's pretty damn close.

is LibreOffice better than Open Office?

I'll probably buy Office eventually but I don't feel like I need it at the moment since I'm not really going to any serious work for a while

I was told OpenOffice isn't really supported now and LibreOffice is a fork that is still worked on.
