Gamefaqs as a whole is dying. You can especially see it on social boards. Hell even CE has slowed down drastically from like 2-3 years ago.

Nah it's just that this place is dying down as a general discussion resource, but I still see it having some use for people wanting to talk about specific games and consoles.

The problem with general discussions around here is the moderators, too often a moderator will just penalize someone for having a contrary opinion and call it trolling and you can't do anything about it besides leave the website... which is exactly what users have been doing who just want a general discussion.

I think the big websites are slowly learning how you can't get arrogant with a moderate amount of success, and how people will leave if you drive them away.

Bullshit. I can only name one with worse mods/rules and that's the one besides here that's infamous for banning people.

YouTube, Reddit (if you count the individual subs since those are entirely at the sub owner's whims) Twitter, Facebook etc. all ban you for more gratuitous reasons than here. More internet-friendly forums that don't care as much for their public image and stuff like 4chan are the ones that are lenient but those aren't "big" sites. Most mainstream sites have strict moderation policies.

There was a CE-RI rivalry way back in the day. CJayC actually had a note in the rules forbidding board clans and the "war" between CE and RI. You'd get moderated just cross-posting in the wrong topic.

The main issue is that Youtube's moderation system is completely automated. As long as you get reported enough times you will automatically get suspended or shadow banned (their shadow ban feature will even automatically make your posts invisible to everyone else if you've been posting too many times in one time period with negative words in them) It depends on the viewerbase of the video you're on whether or not your comment is going to be reported. In that sense it's even worse than Reddit. For things the moderation team actually looks at-videos that are flagged (again, videos are automatically removed after enough flags) they're known to be ridiculously petty. Something as dumb as "fat shaming" is considered offensive.
