Should the proposed changes to the Turkish constitution go through? (See OP)

The referendum would change the Turkish constitution from a parliamentary to a presidential system. The office of prime minister would be scrapped, and the president, who would be elected directly by popular vote, would be the head of the executive branch of government as well as the head of state.
The president would gain a number of powers, including the right to draw up budgets, to appoint and dismiss government ministers and judges, and to issue decrees in some areas. The president would also be allowed to retain an affiliation to a political party. At present the president is required to nominally sever his political ties and govern as a "neutral."

[...]

The changes proposed in the referendum do leave some checks and balances. Parliament can override presidential decisions in some areas, launch investigations and even impeach the president with a two-thirds majority.

It'll be interesting to see how CE votes.

Erdogan is hailing his win:

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-39612562

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has claimed victory in the referendum on granting him sweeping new powers, saying it was won by a clear majority.
He addressed a rally in Istanbul as the count neared completion. With more than 99% of ballots counted, "Yes" was on 51.35% and "No" on 48.65%.
Erdogan supporters say replacing the parliamentary system with an executive presidency will modernise the country.
The two main opposition parties are challenging the results.

i have a feeling that even if the vote was a resounding "NNOOOO. Bloody hell, no" it would still become a "Erdogan YES" somehow

Both Istanbul and Ankara voted no overall.

Plus, it's such a small margin.

It was the Dutch. He wanted to send campaign people to rally up Turkish expats around Europe and the Netherlands were like "nope, the Netherlands are not the place for other countries to do their campaign business" and Erdogan insinuated that that's Nazi behavior.

I really don't think anyone expected Yes to actually lose. If you're the kind of ruler who would call a referendum to increase your own power, you're definitely also the kind of ruler who would stuff the ballots to make sure you get that power.

yeah. it's not really an exaggeration or any sort of rhetoric to say that they're going down the path of a dictatorship. there's no reason erdogan wants the death penalty except to get rid of his opponents

no, the future of Turkey went away after that "coup" showing how popular Erdogan is in the country. The era of Ataturk is over. Now Turkey is going to slip into a similar state as Russia.

well thats sort of what I mean. It's uncertain in that we don't know what will happen now that they're going down this path. will they end up like russia? will there be more separatist violence? is there gonna be some sort of "Turkish spring"? etc

Imagine thinking Donald Trump stood a chance in the Election.

Most polls were showing the results as too close to call, the media was just being obtuse about it.

The French election is a different story.
