People seem to ignore the fact that the 5 star system was NOT an aggregate of all reviews, it was based on an algorithm. It factored in what other people rated it but also what you've watched, what you'd rated other things, things you'd added to your list/shown interest in, etc.
It was possible for a title to show 4 stars on your user account and 2 stars on another user.

I don't even use Netflix and I hate the new rating system, since it reminds me of when YouTube got rid of their star ratings in favor of being more like Facebook

but theres no summary of what others opinions were. what were the percentage of other viewers that liked/disliked.

it doesnt stop me from watching a show, but i like to compare.

It was primarily influenced by the aggregate but it took your own viewing habits and ratings into consideration as well. My gf and I noticed this ourselves because the ratings were most things were different on my user and her user. Sometimes just a little different and sometimes a lot.

I think the issue he has is more about viewing ratings rather than rating himself. He just wants to see an aggregate rating for something as opposed to a largely arbitrary compatibility percentage that it gives you now.

yeah. i like to go to RT and look at reviews b/c you get critics and fan reviews. it doesnt stop me from seeing anything i already want to see, but i like getting the info or comparing afterwards.
