Reasons for accepting and wanting to fight are different today, and for good reasons. We know how much war can suck and know that we shouldn't blindly join a war we know nothing about. We've seen history and stories, and pictures. People then hadn't. It's good that we're more aware of how horrible a war like WW2 can be.

When it comes to the actual fighting, I think people would behave the same.

The young adults in those days weren't born badasses. Hell, most of them were probably incredibly naive about war. Like the other guy said, war changed them and the adapted. The same thing would happen to this generation in that situation

But this is such a naive way of thinking. Because I agree, people need to learn to tackle their problems, and face their problems. Safe spaces are kinda dumb, I don't like people that can't face problems, etc. But this is not a "millenial" problem. This is a problem that has been exacerbated because of the overwhelming presence of the media. Do people really think that in the 40s and 50s everybody was all rough and tough? Of course not, there were sensitive brats back then, too. But they didn't get to make tumblr posts and they didn't have tons of media outlets defending them. Not too make it political, but the current liberal movement is due in large part to the media giving so much attention to these safe spaces.

So I don't think safe spaces are necessarily a new thing. I think the attention social media and the news gives safe spaces is what's new. That's why I don't like when people point out the generation's flaw, or even people in the generation. I'm not defending safe spaces, I'm just saying they've been around longer than we realize.

That's great, but you're arguing different points. Admirals implication was that our military today would be too weak to fight a war like that. Do you agree that you and your fellow soldiers are too weak to fight a war? Because that's what you're arguing.

So, is it not disrespectful to imply that you are a pussy? Idk, seems kind of off base. If you want to agree, that's your right, but I would remind you that you don't speak for the entire military just because you serve. I'm sure plenty of military personal would find that implication objectionable. Or, our military has an incredibly low opinion of its own capabilities, which is concerning.

I don't know if there are any stupider stereotypes than generational ones. "Everyone human being regardless of background born over multiple decades is blank" is ridiculous. It isn't anywhere near as bad as racism, but racism seems downright sensible in comparison.
