Don't packs of wolves do the same thing? One lunges in and the others keep circling until the one either; gets its ass kicked and then the next one wolf attacks or the first wolf cripples the victim and the pack goes in.

The one ninja fighting just has to get a good hit in for the rest to pile in. But in movies they just never do, I guess.

Except they don't wait as long. By the time you'd kick the first one away you'd have two or more on you.

doesn't sound likely, one may act as a diversion while another goes for the hammie then gets out

Seems like it would be very impractical to all rush in at once, at that point you're just getting in each others way. Besides, forming a perimeter keeps the person from running.

i've seen a good description once, that if a movie/show has 1 Ninja. that ninja is a badass that beats everyone.

yeah. its funny though, cuz typically a ninja is some highly trained combat expert, so for it to take 10 of them to fight one dude is absurd.

In any martial arts fight, there is only a finite amount of ninjutsu available to each side in a given encounter. As a result, one Ninja is a deadly threat, but an army of them are cannon fodder.

I remember being a kid and watching Xena and Hercules (and I think the Ninja Turtles movies as well) and thinking this. It's also funny too, some of these trained killers also just take one punch to the gut or one judo throw and they're out like a referee in WWE so that the next ninja can tag in.
