Take with a grain of salt. But if this rumor is true, apparently, they'll try to make it fit within the new Disney canon.

It might as well be new.

Updated graphics, likely updated combat and mechanics, and the story is going to have to be reworked to fit current Star Wars canon.

It's not KOTOR 3, but tbh, KOTOR 3 was never going to happen anyway.

Bioware Austin, an entirely different development team from Bioware Montreal (who worked on Andromeda).

It's sounding similar to the Star Trek reboot situation.

Same characters and all, similar storylines, but definitely retold and reworked.

This seems pretty unlikely tbqh, especially since so much of the world-building was not canon to begin with. Like, this is the game that went out of its way to explain why Tatooine was covered in sand and why Kashyyk is one giant forest, and both reasons tie directly into the game's plot

I've had a feeling for a while this was in the works. They updated KotOR II on Steam with achievements and widescreen support, but not the first one. I'd probably buy it, but I have a lot of doubts that they won't fuck it up.

@RebelElite791

Jedi being forbidden to love:

That is still in place, just a lot more rule breakers in the time of KOTOR and many who did not listen to the council, look at Jolee Bindo, Juhani, Bastila, and Revan himself. The council had the same rules as PT jedi but more Jedi in the Mandalorian War, then Jedi Civil War did their own thing.

crystals having set colors instead of being colorless:

who cares ?

using Dark Side powers without falling:

this is a gameplay thing and it took more force points to use DS powers if you were LS and vice versa

far too advanced hyperspace tech for the time period, far too advanced/prequely aesthetic for the time period:

All SW times have the same tech, hell the PT mostly had the same tech as the OT

insanely overpowered Force users (remember Anakin is the most powerful ever):

It is a fact in the PT the jedi have stagnated and probably gotten much weaker as time went on since the sith went into hiding instead of constant battle. Without a "war" with the sith active the jedi's skills in battle and fighting another force user did not get much practice or use.

As for Anakin being all powerful, Revan was the "Anakin" of his time, he was the big powerful jedi/sith of the KOTOR era. Hell many of the most powerful jedi and sith were around in his time because each side HAD to be strong to battle the other. Active war makes for stronger and more powerful warriors, look at EP 2 Anakin and Obi-Wan then look at EP 3 Anakin and Obi-Wan for flat out proof of this.

You misunderstand. Jedi were not forbidden to love during the time of the Old Republic in canon.

Offworlder1 posted...

The people in charge of maintaining a consistent canon across all forms of media, presumably. Especially when Kyber crystals have received such attention lately.

Offworlder1 posted...

Incorrect. Pablo has stated numerous times that the Old Republic era aesthetic/tech was not prequely and was more primitive feeling. And hyperspace navigation was done by jumping from hyperspace buoy to hyperspace buoy and exiting into realspace every time.

I'm not talking about them being un-honed, I'm talking insane shit like Nihilus and Sion.

My point is that Anakin is flat-out the most powerful Force-user ever to live. Or at least had the potential to be. So any Force-user doing vastly crazier things than he's done is a conflict that should be avoided.

They still seem to be developing active content for it which is why I'm not sure if I can completely believe the rumor.

I feel like EA is the kind of studio that will want both a Star Wars MMO (which can always be rebooted to a new one) and a single player Star Wars game. In which case the MMO would be with Austin and the single player game with Edmonton (which would mean the new IP is cancelled since Dragon Age would be way under development now) or Montreal (who are just finishing up Mass Effect Andromeda).

Of course if EA are happy to ditch the MMO or increasing the size of Austin to handle two games then it's feasible.

I don't really the think the relationship between Revan and Bastila is the same without the lore of Jedi love being forbidden. Same with the character development of Jolee.

I guess that's the one downside of having a strict canon. The side stuff will never feel as epic or as good.

The more I think about it the more I don't think it's a good idea to remake/reboot;
- Star Wars canon makes the story and characters less interesting
- Bioware game expectations are vastly different. You only have one straight romance per gender. Combat wasn't action based. Some of the squad don't have much dialogue like T3 and Zalbaar and that's part of their character
- Combining these two things the game would either be too similar and disliked or too different and disliked

May as well just make a new Stars Wars RPG.
