casinos are rigged and designed for you to lose For some people, yeah it's used as escapism. TC is right though, a lot of what we consider entertainment can literally be considered a waste of time and money. The only table games that you even have a chance at beating the house at over an extended period of time is craps. Unsurprisingly, it's by far the least common game you'll find at a casino.
Games like blackjack and roulette typically operate at about 20% net win for the casino. Which means on average for every dollar a player puts into the game, the casino ends up keeping about 20 cents of it. Sure individual players can have a good streak, no one would go to casinos if they did, but the casino only cares about the amount being kept and played overall. And overall not a single game offered at a casino is in your favor. Slots actually have lower hold percentages than table games do as most slots will end up keeping somewhere between 5 and 15% of the coin in. Still not in your favor. --- S*** I have to stop doing that," Gheb said, as he lay back down and died again. - Forgotten Love Chiefs are going to win the Super Bowl ... Copied to Clipboard!

No and I'm not rich by any stretch but I do enjoy gambling. I usually go to Vegas a couple times a year and will probably place about 300 for table games during my trip. Sometimes I'm up, usually I lose it. I'll usually pick a local team and put 50 on it and watch the games at the sports book and get a shit ton of free beer. I enjoy this time much more than I do going to dinner or watching a movie or doing different things. --- Give me your tired, your poor,Your masses yearning to breathe free,The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.Send these, the homeless, tempest tossed, to me. ... Do those games involve socializing over drinks with friends and strangers?Granted, no. When it comes to just friends, getting together at someone's home to play board games or console games should both be more cost-efficient and fun. But bring a desire to socialize with strangers into the mix, and the casino might be the best environment, since it's probably the only bar-like environment where playing games is considered normal, and casino games can still be more fun than nothing. I understand now, you are right. Is there the chance of winning money for playing them? The costs for time at a casino might be random, sometimes even negative (= you win money) but on average you will end up spending a certain amount of money per fun/etc. gained. Doesn't really disprove your main point, though. --- 96065 ... Copied to Clipboard!

Nah, casinos are fun as hell, especially when you go to them as a group, be it a work function or bachelor party or whatever. Now sitting alone gambling in the casino and losing money, especially playing non social shitty games? That's awful. But stuff like BJ or craps when you have a fun table of people, or even sport betting in Vegas, AND drinking for basically nothing for hours on end? That's fun as hell

I didn't include poker since you aren't playing against the house and thus casinos don't have a net win percentage to track. If poker is included on their table games back of house reports it's always listed as having a win of 100%. --- S*** I have to stop doing that," Gheb said, as he lay back down and died again. - Forgotten Love Chiefs are going to win the Super Bowl ... I think the biggest issue with casinos is that most people who go, have some intent -no matter how small- of potentially making significant financial gain. The average person is woefully ignorant of statistics & logic to understand that not only are casinos tipped in the house's favor, but they'd need to be for such a business to run stably. If casinos rain "fairly" they'd be in danger of going out of business in a single night of unfavorable luck. Casinos are fine if you're just going for entertainment with the slight possibility of leaving with a net financial gain, but unless you're going to do some hardcore card counting, an act that casinos go so far to deter that they use multiple decks, auto shuffling machines, & blacklist most people they even suspect are pulling it off anyway, you shouldn't expect to win; besides the exploitation of statistics & psychology, that doesn't even cover issue of tactics like using alcohol to ply up those with significant winning & reduce their judgment making skills to ensure the house recovers loses.
