Going to a restaurant or a movie isn't quite the same gamble as losing $400 at the roulette wheel. Maybe if you are filthy rich, but not for average Joe.

I think more people are worried about losing money than calling potential fun a waste of money, with respect to casinos.

As long as you set aside a certain amount to lose, and only keep playing with the winnings from that initial amount, it should be OK.

If I was going to spend $200 on a night out, movie, dinner, other entertainment, that's OK.
So set a $200 casinoing money. If you get more, good. If you run out, that's it. Call it a night and don't take more money beyond the initial $200 from the rest of your money.

It depends on the game. Craps has even odds. But you'll notice most gambling businesses don't offer that game. Poker with friends also has even odds.

But blackjack, slots, keno, casino poker tables, roulette, etc....those are all designed for the house to win over time no matter what. Unless you only play them like once or twice, and happen to get lucky those times and come out ahead, you are going to lose money if you play them for any significant amount of time.

Perfect strategy at craps and black jack have about even odds both are under 50% with I believe black jack being a little better.

PERFECT black jack strategy is a .5% house edge. Most people who play blackjack that follow the "rules" are at about 2% disadvantage.

Craps is closer to a 1% house edge if played PERFECTLY

A Fancy meal, or something tangible are all better options.

That's dumb dude, they're two completely different things so you can't compare

It's like saying don't go to a concert because you could get a fancy meal for the same price. Don't buy a video game because you could go to a movie for way cheaper. Etc

It is fun to go to a casino. If you lose, you had fun. But you have pretty damn decent odds of leaving with more money if you're playing a non-gimmicky table game

I mean the last time I went someplace that I'd call fancy. I spent about 70 on a steak, 15 on a salad, 50 on a bottle of wine and 18 on two old fashioneds. That's a little over 150 and don't think that includes tax or tip. That was abroad. Been to many less "fancy" places and Vegas and San Francisco is easily more expensive.

xD $70.00 for a steak, you got ripped off.

Even the best steak houses usually average out around $50.00. Way to waste your money on an overpriced steak.

Between your idea of fancy, and your casino argument, I just don't think I trust your judgement.

I will say some people like the casino, good for them. Personally I would spend that money elsewhere...

True, but if you are counting cards in Black Jack, you won't be able to for very long if you are winning. Craps is really the only exception.

Perfect basic strategy has nothing to do with counting cards. If you find the right games and are actually good at keeping the count you can flip the house odds to about your favor by the same %. That said it's not like in the movies. You're gonna have to grind. You don't just hit it big.

Betting don't pass and full odds can often work down to about .4% house advantage. But either way you basically quoted what I said. I'm not gonna look up BJ but your at about 50% at both, house has the advantage, I believe BJ is slightly better but I could be wrong.

That said I often go off my gut or keep a loose count in BJ and I always bet pass, buy the 6 and the 8, throw some money to put me and the boys on a Hard way.

It's fun. Maybe you don't enjoy it but I have a lot more fun at a craps table than I do the dinner before hand.

50 dollars is probably a mid tier place for a normal steak. That feeling when you go out with 1k more then you went into the casino with is VERY hard to beat.

Even Peter Luger in NYC averages out around $50.00 for steak. Don't try to tell me that isn't a "fancy steak house."

The fact of the matter is if you are paying $70.00 for steak, you can get the same quality elsewhere for cheaper 90% of the time.

There is a certain joy in almost winning.

This is why lottery is six small numbers instead of one giant, 10 digit string of numbers.

Or there are gacha games which tease you with a "good" pull (it's prismatic!) and then reveal the overwhelming odds that it wasn't the good pull you actually wanted.

There's some psychology as well which makes people more eager to try again and to sucker additional money out of them.

But going to the casino with the expectation that you'll make money or breakeven? That's just folly.

Fogo De chao is some Brazilian chain. We have one in San Francisco. You're right I've never been there. I'm right that it's not fancy.

Also quality doesn't = fancy.

I've cooked some nice cuts of meat that I think are as good as I've ever had at a restaurant, my kitchen isn't fancy.

Chama Gaucha is amazing, far better than fogo. Unfortunately I do not have one locally, so I cannot eat there unless I am traveling. Given the option I would go with Chama Gaucha everytime.

You are right though, I would much rather go to Chama Gaucha more regularly then Peter Luger.
They both deliver excellent and comparable experiences, but I get more tangible benefits from a place like chama gaucha.

You have an edge over casinos if you can count cards in blackjack.

If you can ACTUALLY count cards efficiently and properly I believe it's roughly a 1% edge over the house.

It is fun to go to a casino. If you lose, you had fun. But you have pretty damn decent odds of leaving with more money if you're playing a non-gimmicky table game
Playing oversimplified, boring luck games isn't fun. You can find hundreds of much more exciting games on the internet for free. It's especially ridiculous that you're saying this on a video game website.
