1) First time playing FFVII - my first FF game, got it due to hype and staring playing around 5pm. Got to scorpion boss and died because I was an idiot and ignored the tail warnings. Turned it off really unimpressed. Gave it one more shot after dinner and next thing I know it's 3am.

2) All of Uncharted 2 but mostly the train climbing and collapsing building.

3) Oblivion - exiting the sewers for the first time.

- mother brain fight in super metroid:when the last metroid comes and starts draining mother brain before she can kill you, and then it gives you the hyper beam and you blast the shit out of MB... so badass

- The first time you see the Flood in Halo CE, that just dialed the game up to 11, esp since a lot of people did not expect zombies in their sci fi shooter

- first time you see the Ninja in MGS and he's just stabbing the shit out of everyone and Otacon pisses himself

- Aeries death scene in FF7 and the whole beginning part with the Midgar reactor thing

- first time you get killed by the chainsaw guy in RE4 and he slices your head off

- going to phendrana drifts for the first time in Metroid Prime and hearing the music / seeing the raindrops on your visor. i played the game again recently and it still looks incredible even though the game is 15 years old

- Arthas death scene in WotLK - "no king rules forever"

- All Ghillied Up level in CoD4

A lot in FFX. The reveal about Yuna's pilgrimage in Home. The fight against Yunalesca with Auron's speech + reveal. The ending with Yuna trying to hug Tidus but phasing through him. Lying on the ship's deck, tears in her eyes, whispering "I love you".

- Final Fantasy VI's ending. It was the first true RPG / long-runtime game I'd ever beaten, and incidentally the first game that showed me video games could be an art form, even though I didn't fully understand that concept at a relatively-young age. This all culminated during a wonderful ending cinematic that not only highlighted each individual character with their individual theme songs, but managed to blend all the themes into a unified piece that was in perfect synchronization with the little vignettes that were playing out.

- Slowly unlocking the Reverse Castle in Castlevania Symphony of the Night. I'd always thought it was just a rumor (this is pre-internet, mind you), and had always just beaten the game the 'normal' way, until one day I happened to explore one little area in the Underground Caverns I'd never been to before, and triggered the Succubus fight. I don't think I've ever been more excited in a video game as I was following the breadcrumb trail and figuring out all the little clues and puzzles that finally led to what is probably the best 'secret level' in all of gaming.

- some bike-chase mission in GTA Vice City that was frustrating the hell out of me. I got down to the last getaway biker that I was supposed to kill, and either I wiped out on my bike or my car flipped over. I got out and could see the bastard speeding down the strip, knowing that I'd failed the damn mission yet again...until a mack truck just happened to pull out in front of him about a quarter mile down the road from where I was, killing him and completing the mission.

- Finally figuring out an exploit to keep corpses from despawning in Oblivion. It had turned into an obsession spanning months, and even figuring out a more useful and universal exploit (creating a permanent clone of yourself) was just a byproduct of this quest. Few moments matched the elation I felt when I finally realized I had a working technique. Umbra (the badass warrior, that is) finally became my servant forever!

- there was a moment very early in Skyrim where I approached a ruin called Bleakwind Bluff - just a little ruined fort on top of a hill. It was sunset, and a Blood Dragon suddenly attacked. Then, much to my surprise, the red-orange sky blazed as the hillside lit up with fireballs and arrows aimed at the dragon - for a moment, my enemies put aside their aggression towards me as we united against this common threat. I remember thinking at the time 'yeah...this is the reason I put so much time into these games' - it was one of those living, breathing world moments that, despite their myriad of other flaws, Bethesda games are still the tops at.

Final Fantasy X ending Yuna saying I love you literally right before Tidus disappeared broke me

Beating Super Mario World. The first game I ever beat, so it was a joyous moment.

Danganronpa 2, the 5th trial. When Chiaki was revealed as the traitor and then executed, I broke down. Still haunts me

Bioshock. It was the first somewhat scary game I played, and it made me feel like such a man.

Those may be my top 4, though there are many others that I probably just can't think of.

Top ones for me would have to include:

Suikoden 1's opening couple of hours. Everything from Pahn's betrayal, fleeing Gregminster with Viktor, meeting & losing Odessa. I was hooked on the series big time.
Suikoden 2-- Luca Blight battle, nuff said.

Final Fantasy 6-- the party splits up, especially Sabin's path
Final Fantasy 7-- the sequence of disk 2 where you lose Cloud, from Sephiroth getting the black materia, the Weapons waking up, Tifa escaping Junon, the Huge Materia quests, and Cloud finally remembering his true past. I played this whole sequence in a marathon afternoon/evening & it was one of my favorite parts of the game.
Final Fantasy 8's release day-- I was so hyped for this game that I woke up, picked it up from the store, came home & played it for 17 hours straight. All of disk 1 plus the Laguna flashback that starts disk 2.

Mass Effect 2-- Suicide Mission, nuff said.

Silent Hill 2, the last couple of hours are really hard hitting.

Fallout 3, the final main game mission, with Liberty Prime stomping through DC.

Golly. I have so, so many.

Suikoden 1 -- There are two moments in this game. Gremio's death speech, and Barbarosa's monologue after his defeat.

Suikoden 2 -- So many. Really this whole game is memorable for me. There are a few I can point out though -- one is the conversation between Kiba and Shu the night before you attack Matilda. It's something a lot of people scroll over but there is so much emotion in that scene if you understand the story. Then of course there's Nanami's scene after the fight with Gordo. And then of course the perfect ending is for me one of the most memorable scenes of any RPG ever.

Wild Arms -- When Rudy straight up blows his own fucking arm off to keep himself from being dragged down by Zeikfried. It's even better in Alter Code F.

Wild Arms 2 -- The demon summoning ritual at the Sword Cathedral, The first Knightblazer transformation, literally every interaction with Liz & Ard, finally facing Ragu O Ragula after all of the ridiculously convoluted requirements to do so (this can really be applied the whole series to be honest)

Morrowind -- Facing Dagoth Ur in the center of Red Mountain while the second Numidum towers over you. It's not really much of a fight all things considered, but it's definitely memorable just from the sight of it at first.

Breath of Fire 3 -- Garr's betrayal, and his subsequent redemption over the next half of the game. Finding Teepo in Eden. The last battle.

Final Fantasy 7 -- Aerith's death of course. Sephiroth burning down Nibleheim. Diamond Weapon getting straight up blasted by the Junon cannon. The first time you get curious about wtf that green thing is underwater, or the red thing in the desert. The subsequent shock of getting defeated by both of them. That feeling when you finally claim the Knights of Round. Snowboarding, CC version of Zack's last stand.

Crash Bandicoot Series -- Claiming the Golden Gem in CB2, getting all the platinum relics in CB3. Destroying your friends in CTR because you know the tracks better than the layout of your own home.

Halo -- This whole game. Really.

Red Dead Redemption -- The last firefight at the farm, and John's sacrifice. Jack blasting Edward in his revenge mission. Murdering the Sasquatch's family. Taming the four horses of the apocalypse & the unicorn.
