I just moved to tacoma WA. I live on hilltop which is the sketchiest part. My apartment is in a good location because its the business district which is the nice part people wearing suits etc.
That being said I went to go meet a friend who lives in a different part of Tacoma to hang out (I walked because it was like a mile). On the way back google maps makes me take a weird way back to my apartment complex.

So I'm walking through this neighborhood and all (most) of the houses are foreclosed and the others are really shitty everyone has old crappy cars etc

Then i start walking and I notice this really crappy car turned on in the side of the road with three African American fellows wearing all blue, even blue hats, etc.

I get closer to it and I notice the guy in the back near me starts opening the door REALLY REALLY slowly and the other two guys are just sitting there. I literally had a panic attack but I decided to not look guilty and keep a smooth walk. Once I got further away from the car I started to speed walk and after a couple of blocks I was in a less sketchy part of town.

Why did I move to the worse part of a crappy city? I only moved here because I just finished college in Olympia and I hated Olympia but I couldn't afford Seattle so I just picked the cheapest apartment I could find in Tacoma that wasn't disgusting to live in.

My apartment is actually really nice, like I said right in the business district and my apartment is gated and has two security doors so it's not like anyone can realistically break in. I see people wearing suits whenever I take a walk in the business district of Hilltop and it makes me feel way more safe.

That being said, stay out of bad neighborhoods.
