After the new beauty and the beast of course, there was talk of mulan or aladdin or some s*** getting a live action movie, no talk of lion king though maybe the most popular disney cartoon movie of all time

You know there's already one in the works, right? Directed by Jon Favreau, Donald Glover as Simba and James Earl Jones reprising Mufasa

yeah but lion king is mostly animals though, so i can see the problem in doing a live action one of that one

Ideally, I'd like them to use those resources to make new films, but since I know that isn't an option, I'll say Sleeping Beauty. It's one of the weaker early Disney movies and the Maleficent movie was awful.

Isn't that reason enough to leave it alone? It's a pretty weak concept already; it's hard to imagine how they'd really make that compelling

Just watch Once Upon a Time. They've already had live-action versions of just about every Disney character, and in the later seasons they're ridiculously good likenesses (Merida and Elsa in particular, but Ariel's good too. And IMO, if they don't have Jamie Chung reprise her role as Mulan in the upcoming film, they're fools.)

There's no reason to make a remake of a good film that works perfectly unless you think you can do it better, and I mean that more broadly than just Disney. Sleeping Beauty is one of the few major Disney movies that's really not that good, so it actually has room for improvement. And seeing how they'd make a weak concept compelling is more interesting to me than seeing them reshoot Beauty and the Beast.

I'd prefer one with mostly human characters so the "live action" isn't a bunch of CGI. Mulan seems like a good candidate for that.

Hercules came to mind first, James Woods seems still keen on playing the Hades character as long as it takes if Kingdom Hearts is any indicator, and that leaves a central element for the rest of the film to build around, as the grand sweeping action of the original isn't what it's remembered for compared to its theming. Updating the Hercules character up to a more modern standard for Meg to actually have something to play off of would be fantastic.

Otherwise, I honestly think Treasure Planet would be worth another look. The movie practically screams to be in live-action anyway, with the "look at this extreme late 90's sky surfing" intro from the beginning being the only real definite need for the hand-drawn animation stylings. Will also be able to remove BEN potentially, Treasure Island is still a strong enough story on its own as to be interesting, and they've had another Pirates franchise with plenty to steal assets from and another sci fi franchise with plenty to steal assets from. Honestly it just seems incredibly easy to adapt, if anything. Not exactly a nostalgic draw, but a good way to garner interest and essentially revitalize an IP that isn't doing anything for them right now.

As long as they call it "The Book of Three" and actually intend to follow the entire series to its end instead of butchering the first book, I'll be happy.

Because the Chronicles of Prydain is an underrated book series that really should have gotten decent film representation.

EDIT: OMG

Hercules is another good choice, I agree there. But if you had only the choices of weak concept and poor execution vs good concept and good execution, I'd choose the first. Offhand, the good choices to me for Disney remakes are:
Pocahontas
Black Cauldron
Hunchback of Notre Dame
Hercules
Sleeping Beauty
Probably there are others, but those are the ones I remember immediately.
