40. Super Star Wars (SNES)
This might be the hardest game I've ever played, and is what was probably the start of me getting incredibly angry at video games. To put it into perspective, I bought this game the day it came out on PS4 sometime in the last year or so, and I still couldn't beat it legitimately despite multiple attempts, so imagine a seven year old trying to do the same. One of my vivid memories of playing this game as a kid involved my dad getting so fed up with me being frustrated that I was losing that he took the cart and literally smashed it. I then got it again for Christmas the following year. Despite all that, I still love this game. Other than Super Mario World, there isn't a game I spent more time playing on my SNES as a kid, and growing up a huge Star Wars fan probably helped that. This game involves difficult, punishing platforming, and you were severely punished for dying as well because your weapon would be downgraded, making it very difficult to defeat the enemies. I'd often start over after a death if I was far enough in because I knew I wouldn't be able to recover from it. Still, I love Star Wars so I loved the characters, the music was great, and despite it being incredibly difficult, it was still very fun to play. 39. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (PS3) Modern Warfare 2 is peak Call of Duty, and I refuse to believe any other argument. This game was the perfect multiplayer shooter, and with how I now feel about the genre, I can't see myself ever experiencing a multiplayer shooter that is anywhere close to the same level as this game. I used to come home from school and play this game all night with my friends. At the age of 14 I thought we were so cool with our party and our matching clan tags. We were actually pretty good, too, which made it fun. I mean, I wasn't good at all (I rocked a solid 1.5 K/D), but my friends were good. Anyway, I'm not really sure what to say about this game. It's Call of Duty, and the gameplay in all of them have been pretty similar. It was just better here, and I can't explain why. The single player was great, too. For a first-person military shooter, it was actually pretty interesting, so that helps its ranking, as well. --- https://psnprofiles.com/Simmons-94 ... Copied to Clipboard!

38. Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES)
After seeing the first two in the series on the list, it wasn't a stretch to assume that the third game would also make an appearance. Out of the three, SMB3 is the game I've spent the most time playing outside of when I played as a kid, so that no doubt is a factor in it outranking the previous two. SMB2 is a weird game, so it's hard to compare it, but compared to the original, SMB3 is objectively better in nearly every way. The world map is awesome, the Tanooki suit is awesome, the little mini-games are awesome, the boss ships are awesome, and the first time I experienced the giant world as a kid was mind blowing. This is a great game. When I was about 15, a friend of mine who lived on my street got his hands on a NES, and for an entire Summer, we played this game nearly every day. I miss those days. 37. Beyond Good & Evil (PS2) I don't want to sound like a hipster here, but I played this game before I even knew it was cool. When I was younger my dad would sometimes buy my brother and I random games, and so I came into possession of this game on the Gamecube having never heard of it before. Something about it is so charming. The soundtrack is amazing, both during tense moments and in small moments of discovery. The photography system that involved being rewarded for taking pictures of every animal is one of my favourite things in gaming. The combat was fine, but this game was never about the combat. It told a compelling story with some compelling characters and it was fun to play. Together, Jade and Pey'j are great, and I had a great time solving every puzzle and collecting every pearl in the game both in my original playthrough and again on the PS3 with the remastered version. Oh, and it also had a pseudo open-world and boat racing, which is cool. --- https://psnprofiles.com/Simmons-94 ... Copied to Clipboard!

36. Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories (PSX)
This is a Yugioh game, but the card game you play in it isn't even really close to Yugioh at all. It had the characters from Yugioh, which was a plus, and the game featured cards with the same name and artwork as real Yugioh cards (not the right effects), but the actual card game in it was all over the place. In this game, you can play one card a turn, but you can also fuse any two or more cards together, and if they were compatible, they would form a stronger card. In some of the later battles, you had a less than zero chance of winning if you did not know how to make the strongest cards in the game. Oh, and the game did not explain any of this to you. Despite everything I just said, this game is great. From my previous Yugioh game write-up, you know my history with the card game, so as a kid I was drawn to this game. It's not all nostalgia though, because even as an adult I've played this game and loved it. This game is really weird, but I love it because it's weird, not despite it being weird. 35. Spyro: Year of the Dragon (PSX) We've now reached the point in the list where my gaming habits are going to become especially apparent. 32/35 of the remaining games originated from a Playstation console, with many of them being exclusive to the brand, and that starts with Spyro. Despite being similar gameplay wise to one another, every new Spyro game was able to introduce a new mechanic or collectible to make it just a little bit different, and with Spyro 3 it was the dragon eggs. I'm sure everyone is familiar with everyone's favourite small purple dragon, but it not, the Spyro games were your classic Playstation platformer, where you played as the small dragon traversing levels using your ability to glide and spew flame to defeat enemies and collect items on your way to beating these levels. The first 3 Spyro games were all great in different ways, and you will see at least one more of them on this list. Year of the Dragon was more of that greatness, and they all still hold up even now. --- https://psnprofiles.com/Simmons-94 ... Copied to Clipboard!

34. The Simpsons: Hit & Run (PS2)
Also known as Grand Theft Auto: The Simpsons, this game gave you an open-world Springfield that, as Homer, lets you drive around in any of the iconic Simpsons cars and mess around with the iconic characters of this iconic world. Similar to GTA, you went around completing missions for people, and it also had side-missions, which included races, and collectibles as well. This game came out a year after Vice City and two after GTA 3, so it's clear where it borrowed from. The Simpsons license only makes this game better, if you're a fan. It's still a genuinely fun game to play without even taking that into account, though. The world is fun, and the missions, which get increasingly challenging for a game probably targeted towards kids, feel rewarding. You also get to play in multiple different areas of the city, all in all making the map seem pretty huge, and the story is actually pretty cool as well! It goes to some fun places near the end. It's hard to recommend a kids game 13 years after its release, but I will say that this is definitely not a licensed character cash in, and definitely think it's worth checking out. 33. Star Wars: Battlefront (PS2) As a Star Wars mega fan, the Battlefront games were awesome. Even the newer one is pretty solid, but what sets the old ones apart is the inclusion of Galactic Conquest, which is essentially a story mode. If the next game in the series keeps the gameplay and adds this mode in, I can see it taking a spot on this list. Galactic Conquest, as a fan, is that good. I didn't even realize online was a thing on the PS2 back in the day, so I played these games exclusively against the AI, but that is what made them so great. I felt like a badass playing as one rebel or clone soldier taking on an entire army on these iconic Star Wars maps. The game against the AI wasn't especially difficulty, so you often could rack up ten or twenty kills before dying, which felt awesome as well. Galactic Conquest is extremely simple, but it's great. You choose your faction, and one by one you go to different planets in an effort to conquer them, winning the game once you beat them all. There isn't really even a story to it, but the idea of placing yourself in the Star Wars universe and doing it felt so cool. This mode is the only thing I want out of a new Battlefront game. --- https://psnprofiles.com/Simmons-94 ... Copied to Clipboard!

I've done a couple 100% runs of the game, and some of the later races and missions felt incredibly difficult at the time. I think it's easily one of the best licensed games out there. 32. Def Jam: Fight for NY (PS2)
Def Jam: Fight for NY is my favourite fighting game of all time, but isn't it everyone's? Okay, probably not, but this game has the thing I value most in games, and something that very few if any fighting games have: a real story. What is Def Jam? Essentially an action fighting game, where the characters are mostly well known musicians from the hip-hop community. I'm not the biggest hip-hop fan in the world, but at the age of 10 when I got this game I liked a lot of these artists, and at the very least, recognized almost all of them. Fighting as or against these real life people was exciting at the time. It isn't just a regular fighting game, either. It has all of the fighting game aspects, but I feel as if it's more of a hybrid of fighting and wrestling games. Also, there were different styles and moves to choose from, and each character specialized in one of these. The story mode was the best part. You created your character and chose your fighting style, then worked your way through the fight scene, gaining points to upgrade your character along the way. The story was interactive, as well. At certain points, you were given the option to join a certain group or favour certain people, changing the way the story played out, which gave the game a lot of replay value. I've played this game start to finish three or four times, each time experimenting with different styles and choosing different outcomes. It's a lot of fun. 31. Pokemon Gold (GBC) This was the first Pokemon game I ever played. I distinctly remember being so young playing this that I had no idea what was going on. I could read, so I had a vague idea of what to do, but it legitimately took months before I realized what to do at the beginning of the game and make any progress at all. To start, you chose your Pokemon and were told to make a delivery to Mr. Pokemon. I couldn't find his house. I started over so many times, trained up my starter way more than I should have, and generally just walked around the first couple routes. I dropped the game and came back to it with what I assume was a better understanding and was finally able to continue my journey, and it was magical. People have different opinions on Pokemon. Board 8 generally likes it a lot, so, regardless of what anyone thinks now, I'm sure you can remember your first true experience with Pokemon as a kid and how amazing it was. Pokemon Gold was this for me, and is why after a hundred releases, it is still my favourite of them all. --- https://psnprofiles.com/Simmons-94 ... Copied to Clipboard!

30. Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus (PS2)
I'm not sure I've met anyone who believes the first Sly Cooper game was the best in the series, other than me. Like the Ratchet & Clank games, people tend to favour the sequels, but I spent the most time playing the first games in both of these series than any of the others, so there has to be an explanation for it. It's definitely not a nostalgia thing, either, because I picked up the remastered version of all of these games on the PS3, and still enjoyed the first game more. I just think it's better. As for why, I think it's a combination of the level design and the playable characters. With the first Sly game, you played as Sly. No wheelchair Bentley, no Murray. They're all great characters, but I come to Sly Cooper to play as Sly Cooper. You also spent significantly less time in the hub world in the first Sly game, which I liked. The later games seemed to shift the focus away from individual levels, and while I think they're great, it just didn't feel the same. With that out of the way, why do I like Sly Cooper? I've already mentioned the characters, and the Playstation 2 era platformer humour was on point here, which is always a plus. Beyond all that, though, the game was just a blast to play. 29. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS2) Considering I've explained my love for "GTA style open-world games" in a bunch of my write ups, it wouldn't make sense for actual Grand Theft Auto games to show up on the list. We seen GTA V earlier on, but the PS2 era games were unlike any other, and we'll start with San Andreas. There isn't much to explain about the gameplay of an open-world game like GTA that hasn't been said by others as well as myself on this very list, so I won't ramble on about that. San Andreas provided an interesting setting, with a world that seemed huge at the time. I've seen some videos recently showing just how small it actually is, but as a kid it seemed massive. I remember driving from one end of the map to the other multiple times with it seemingly taking forever. The first time I played it I actually got a little discouraged when you were dumped into the small town as part of the story, just because it seemed like I was so far away from Los Santos. Other things are great about this game, too. The soundtrack is amazing, which is the status quo for PS2 Grand Theft Auto, and I couldn't get enough of the weight and muscle interaction. Every time I'd start this game over, which was a whole lot, the first thing I'd do was go to the gym and stay there until my muscle level was at its max. It was little things like this that kept me coming back to this game and to GTA as a whole. --- https://psnprofiles.com/Simmons-94 ... Copied to Clipboard!

San Andreas was the only PS2 GTA I never played, but the write-up makes me think the others will show up soon so I'll wait for them!
I played the original Gold/Silver when they came out but it was so long ago I honestly don't remember much about them. The remakes stick more in my memory and they were a lot of fun! I can relate to the first Pokemon game being magical as a kid, though. I can relate to the first Pokemon game being magical as a kid, though. I have a lot of memories for Red/Blue/Yellow, though I did eventually come to prefer the FR/LG remakes. I played a lot of Gold over the years, up until the point where the battery in my cartridge died and I could no longer save the game, so a bunch of the memories I have of it are still fresh to me. That very first memory from the write-up is the first thing that comes to mind when I think about the game, though. I never actually finished HG/SS, which makes it the only mainline Pokemon game I haven't beaten. It's weird, because I was extremely excited for it because of my love of the originals. The parts I played of it were fun, but I think my expectations were a little too high going in. It also came out at a point in which I was distancing myself from the series, so that definitely played a part in it. I was actually looking to give it another try before Sun/Moon came out, but after Pokemon GO all of the prices skyrocketed and I wasn't interested in paying $80 for it. --- Brought to you by GameFlux Free GameFAQs app on Google Play! ... 28. Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy (PS2)
If you thought my adoration of Naughty Dog was confined to the next-gen consoles, you couldn't be more wrong, as both this entry and future entries will tell you. The first Jak game is so different than its sequels that I often think of it as a completely different series altogether. This game was your poster Playstation 2 platformer, with the same humour, collecting, level style gameplay as the previously mentioned Ratchet and Sly games, which, as you can tell, I love. That's about all I have to say in this write-up, because at this point I'm beginning to sound like a broken record with these similar games. Just know that the first Jak and Daxter is the 28th best game of all-time. 27. Ratchet and Clank (PS2) Speaking of PS2 era humorous, level based platformers that I love, how about the original Ratchet and Clank? This is probably going to be the shortest write-up on the list, both because I discussed everything I love about the series and the first game in particular in previous Ratchet write-ups, and also because I've discussed this style of game here even more. The one thing I will say that I haven't already is that not many people like the first game the most out of the original three, and I do mostly because I spent the most time playing it when I was a kid, so it's likely a nostalgia thing. The other two are also great games, though. --- https://psnprofiles.com/Simmons-94 ... Copied to Clipboard!

26. God of War III (PS3)
This was the first game I ever purchased on my PS3, days after buying it. I didn't even have an HD TV yet, so the first time I played this game was in glorious standard definition. A little backstory on my PS3: My dad purchased a PS3 for himself a year or two after it came out. I don't count this period of time as owning the system, mostly because, except for in rare situations with certain games, I didn't spend much time playing it. It wasn't until 2010 that he realized it was essentially collecting dust in his room so he agreed to hand it over to me if I took all the games he had for it and traded them in, then gave him the money. Back to God of War. For some reason, before this game I didn't spend a lot of time with the previous games in the series. I owned and played a little bit of the first game, and it wasn't until years later that I played the second in the series, so I'm not exactly sure why I was attracted to this game. Regardless, maybe it was the fact that I had just got my hands on my own PS3, but I played an insane amount of this game. Oddly enough, my first Platinum trophy came from the very first PS3 game I personally owned, as I went through 3 playthroughs of this game back to back. I think a combination of all the memories discussed in this write-up provides a good explanation of why I like this game enough to have it just barely miss the top 25 on my list. 25. Need for Speed: Underground (PS2) Every game on this list is exceptional, to the point that I found it very difficult to rank some over others because of how close they were in personal enjoyment. The top 25, however, are all on another level when compared to every game ranked before them. I didn't choose 25 as an arbitrary number that I believed I valued more either, it just worked out that way when I was going through the ranking process. I think I've been conditioned to feel nostalgic about this game every time I hear the words Lil Jon and Get Low. In fact, just typing those words out makes me want to go play this game. I'm even nostalgic about the cover of this game's case. It's actually pretty crazy. Why am I so nostalgic for this game? Probably because I played a whole bunch of it when I was younger, but it's also likely that this game is just great. At the age of ten, the thought of putting decals and neon lights on my bright red car seemed like the coolest thing ever, and I loved it. Being able to modify your car and upgrade its performance is something that I miss in a lot of modern racing games, and is always why I gravitate towards the Need for Speed and Gran Turismo series, regardless of their quality. This game had more than just normal races, too, which, in modern games, isn't anything special. Back then though, there weren't many games (that I played, at least), that had drift events. Everything about this game just oozed coolness to ten year old me, but make no mistake, this game is as cool today as it was a dozen years ago. --- https://psnprofiles.com/Simmons-94 ... 24. Star Wars: Battlefront II (PS2)
I mentioned most of what I liked about the Battlefront games in the previous ranking so this write-up won't be excessively long. Overall, this game improved on everything the first game did, and I ended up playing it for even longer than the first one. The gameplay was similar, but the hero and villain stuff were a cool addition. Galactic Conquest was also better in this game, as well. It was still simple, but the grid based map lent itself to some more strategic tactics than the previous game, which was an overall improvement. Also, space battles. Enough said. 23. Batman: Arkham Asylum (PS3) I haven't touched this game since the first time I played it about a year after it came out, but I feel like if I replayed it now, I'd enjoy it even more than I did back then. I've always been a casual superhero, and especially Batman fan, but in the past few years I've significantly ramped that up to the point that I take trips to my local comic shop every Wednesday to pick up the newest releases. Still, the thought of playing a good Batman game was intriguing back then, and I'm glad I did. It's easy to talk about how the Batman combat system has worn out its novelty nowadays, because it seemed like every game that came out after this one copied some portion of it. When this game first came out though, I was blown away by the smoothness and flow of the combat here, and how good it felt to just knock people out as the Dark Knight. Other than the fact that I'm playing as the Batman in Batman's world and interacting with well known Batman villains, my favourite part of this game and the series as a whole has been the predator encounters. I dislike stealth in games, but it's never been punishing in the Batman games, and it has always been extremely fun to stalk your enemies and take them out one by one as the Batman. If you haven't been able to tell, I like Batman. --- https://psnprofiles.com/Simmons-94 ... Copied to Clipboard!

22. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (PS3)
What is there really to say about Uncharted that I haven't already? I've talked about how I think Nathan Drake is the perfect video game character, how the soundtrack and gameplay has always been solid, and how the story is some of the best ever. What makes Uncharted 2 better than the first one, and better than nearly 80 other games on this list, is just how much better it does all of those things I mentioned in the first paragraph. Looking back now, it's easy to point out why the second game is better than the first (and the third, easily), but after playing the first game I couldn't figure out how it could possibly be even better, other than just more Uncharted. Despite all that, Uncharted 2 elevates everything. The story is more compelling, the set pieces are bigger and better, and they improved on a lot of this issues the first game had with the combat. This game is a perfect example of a developer realizing where they can improve on an already great game, and nearly perfectly executing on all of those improvements. 21. Digimon World 3 (PSX) As a kid, I liked the Digimon TV show much more than Pokemon. I kind of fell after the first season when they rotated a bunch of the cast, but that first season is still to this day some of my favourite animated television. I played all of the Digimon World games as a kid. 2 was bad, and I may or may not be discussing the first game in a later write-up, but I thought and still think it's pretty cool that all of the games were completely different genres. 3 was kind of like Pokemon, in the sense that you had a party of 3 Digimon that were chosen at the beginning of the game, and used them in turn-based battles against other Digimon and trainers. This game had everything I currently love about video games. Open-world, turn-based RPG, fun story, and a recognizable and well liked brand, so it's easy to see why I would like it. After the first four Digimon World games (the fourth was also bad), Digimon fell off the map for me. I have Cyber Sleuth, which looks kind of similar to this game, on my backlog, and if it's anything close to as fun as Digimon World 3 I'll no doubt love it. Also, this game had a really cool card game in it, and I'm a sucker for card games. --- https://psnprofiles.com/Simmons-94 ... Copied to Clipboard!

I remember us talking about Arkham Asylum in my ranking topic, and I'm still kind of sad those games didn't click for me. Maybe if I were more of a Batman fan like you... ah well.
Anyway, I'm hyped for the top 20! Whenever people do rankings like this I usually try to pick a highly ranked game that I hadn't already played or intended to play, and then I add it to my (massive) to-play list. Hopefully your top 20 isn't all console exclusives! --- **R.O.B.A.Z.O.I.D** (On mobile) ... Copied to Clipboard!

You've probably only played 2 or 3 of my top 20, and while there are a decent chunk of console exclusives in there, there's at least a few that you'd be able to check out, and that I'd definitely recommend! I probably won't get to it until May though because I want to borrow my brother's copy of Advent Children so I can watch it afterwards and I won't see him until then. 20. Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped (PSX)
I wouldn't be a true Naughty Dog fan if I also didn't enjoy the Crash Bandicoot games. Warped is both the first game in the series that I played and the one I spent the most time with, and after playing all of the trilogy, I'm confident in saying it's the best of the 3. Who would of thought that, based on recent games on this list, that I would enjoy a humorous Playstation, level-based platformer? Crazy, if you think about it. Seriously though, this game is everything I like about the genre, and based on the age I was when I first played it, is one of the reasons why I got into the genre in the first place. For what seems like the fifth time, I can't really describe why I like a Playstation platformer without repeating myself, so I'll leave it here and just say that playing Warped might've been the most pure fun I had on the Playstation as a kid. 19. Gran Turismo 2 (PSX) Creating this list has been fun not only to see what my overall favourite games are, but also which game in each genre is my favourite. I can safely say that Gran Turismo 2 is my favourite racing game of all time. I love simulation games. It's why I continue to buy sports games every year. Sometimes, it's not even about playing the game, but about seeing myself make progress. With Gran Turismo, it's as much about the racing as it is getting the licenses, buying and upgrading my car, and slowly working through the different events, and no other racing game series comes close to providing that. I actually have had two very different, yet equally great experiences with this game. My dad has an unhealthy love for cars, so we played this game a lot as a kid, slowly working our way up, getting better cars, and generally accumulating wealth. I remember one night in particular, my parents went out to some event, and for what felt like all night I grinded out the same race that awarded you with a car which you could then sell for cash. I had made a few hundred thousand by the time they got home. Things like this are why I love the Gran Turismo games and the type of different experiences they give you. My second experience, which came a little while afterwards, involved a family friend copying their save file onto our memory card, and not only did they have every event completed and millions of dollars, but they also owned nearly every car in the game. Now, I could screw around in any of the super cars and any of the races. Every time I played, I'd buy a new car and upgrade it to the max, then take it out to the test track and see how fast I could go. As you can see, this game was a big part of my childhood, and it's definitely more than just a driving game to me. --- https://psnprofiles.com/Simmons-94 ... Copied to Clipboard!

18. Digimon World (PSX)
My brother and I spent way too much time playing this game as kids, then, after we both got PSPs, we played it again there. Despite not only that, but also carefully reading and following guides, I still feel like I have no idea how to play this game optimally. I'm sure there are other games with similar systems, but I haven't played them, so I have nothing to compare this to. Essentially, you start the game with a Digimon as your pet, and through training, battling, feeding, and proper hygiene (you literally have to take it to the washroom), it'll eventually digivolve. The catch, though, is that there are a number of different Digimon you can get through this process, some much better than others (including Sukamon, an actual pile of s***), and while these aforementioned guides were available, it still always felt like a crapshoot when it came to what you got. Throughout this process, your pet would age, and eventually die, and the process would start over, meaning that even if you did get what you wanted, your time with your powerful Digimon was often limited. Despite making it sound like a chore, the process was actually incredibly fun for my brother and I. At this point in the ranking, I've mentioned my enjoyment of seeing progress being made enough times that I'm convinced it's my guilty pleasure in games, because, just like with all of the previous games, I really liked seeing my Digimon's stats slowly go up as I trained and cared for it. I've played this game from the beginning many times, and each time, hours would be spent on this process, and that was before I even begun to explore the island and actually progress in the story. Similar to the 3rd game and its parallels to Cyber Sleuth, the newly released Next Order game is said to be very similar to this game, so I'm looking forward to eventually digging through that. 17. The Legend of Dragoon (PSX) Out of the seventeen remaining games on the list, there is only one game that I want a sequel for more than this game. The Legend of Dragoon was said to be a "Final Fantasy VII killer", and while I don't think it quite manages to do that (spoilers for a future game on the list), I think it comes pretty close. This is also the highest game on the list that I've never actually played start to finish, and I fault myself for not being able to commit to a game as long as this a kid. I played it again four or five years ago, and almost finished it, but there were so many other games to play at the time and so I dropped it and never got a chance to go back to it. There have also been many playthroughs in between those two instances. I feel like I continue to come back to this game throughout my life. What makes this game so good? As I've stated, JRPG is my favourite genre of game, but this game's battle system was different, and that's why it stood out to me. On the surface, it was your standard turn based system, however, during attacks, you would have to input button combinations and form combos to maximize your damage. The best comparison I can make is to the Mario and Luigi handheld games, but much more complicated. Similar to FFVII, this game had pre-rendered backgrounds, and they are some of, if not the best I've ever seen. FFVII's backgrounds are great, but the intention there is dark, industrial looking settings. LoD's world is similar at times, but it is overwhelmingly bright, and especially beautiful. I felt like I wanted to be in the world every time I played it. I hate to compare it to FFVII again, but I think people who love that soundtrack have got to hear LoD's. It has its moments of melancholy and intensity, but like the world it's in, it is often bright and beautiful. --- https://psnprofiles.com/Simmons-94 ... Copied to Clipboard!

I don't think you need to play FFVII first, but your impression of one might be altered if you play the other first. 16. Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (PS4)
This is the newest addition to this list. In fact, at the time of writing this write-up, this was the most recent game that I had beaten. I had extremely high expectations for this game. I was disappointed with Uncharted 3, but loved the other two, as this list will tell you. I heard many people say that this was the best in the series, and frankly, I didn't believe it could get much better than Uncharted 2. That was until I played it. Overall, some great additions were made to this game. Nathan Drake and crew were as human as they've ever been, and the way in which the story was told eclipsed even the second game. There also felt like less combat sections overall, and while I think it's solid, it's easily my least favourite part of the games. The added ability to use stealth to skip encounters entirely, and the fact that you weren't punished for not being stealthy (which is a big plus), brought an element to the series that wasn't present previously. I also enjoyed the fact that the game was much more grounded than the other three. By Uncharted 3, I had kind of gotten tired of surprise plot twists that introduced random monsters into the games. I rarely, if ever, get emotional while playing games (or while watching movies), but I got pretty close at the ending. Going in, Naughty Dog had said that this would be Drake's final adventure, so it wasn't a surprise to find out it was, and while I won't spoil exactly how it finished, I thought it was a fitting end to the story. That didn't stop me from being incredibly sad that it was finally over, though. --- https://psnprofiles.com/Simmons-94 ... Copied to Clipboard!

15. Resident Evil 5 (PS3)
Not a lot of people like this game, and I don't think anyone likes it quite as much as I do. In a previous write-up, I spoke about my introduction to Resident Evil, and becoming a fan for life. I also mentioned my dislike of the horror genre. So while most people were upset when the series started transitioning in the action direction and moving away from the horror, I couldn't have been happier. This is another one of those games that I found to be much more enjoyable because of my experience playing it with a friend. Previously, I managed that I rarely played PS3 games before I received it from my dad in 2010. This was one of those rare games. I picked it up at release along with a friend, and we played it through to completion together twice, and then I played it again solo. More recently, this game was released on the PS4, and so that same friend and I bought it again, where we played it through to completion together twice, and then I played it one more time solo. Unless I really like a game, I won't really go back to it, yet alone complete it more than once. I've mentioned numerous times about how I've gone back to games many times, or how as a kid I would get stuck on games and just keep starting over, so yeah, I might have started more runs in a certain game than I have with Resident Evil 5, but I've played this game to completion six times, and if it weren't for Super Mario World, that would be more than any other game I've played. What I'm trying to say is, alone, this is a good game. Dealing with the AI partner can get annoying at times, but I think it's still a good time. Playing it with someone else, though, is the best co-op experience I've ever had. It elevates the game from an 8 to nearly a 10 in my books. I've played through it six times, but if my friend asked me tomorrow to go through it again, I wouldn't hesitate. 14. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (PS2) Vice City is the best GTA game ever made. Vice City also has my favourite video game soundtrack of all time. Better than Hotline Miami. Better (just barely) than FFVII. I still listen to the songs from Flash FM on a regular basis. I wasn't even alive in the '80s, but every time I hear any of those songs I get nostalgic for this game, and it's a good feeling. I loved this game as a kid. I still own the guide book for it. Tommy Vercetti is a badass, and a dick, and a great character. Lance Vance was also cool, for awhile, anyway. What can I really say about this game? This is THE GTA game for a lot of people, and it feels like it has transcended games altogether. The music is great, the characters are great, I loved the setting, and the empire building that took place in the second half of the game was a lot of fun. Nothing does GTA style open-world better than Vice City. --- https://psnprofiles.com/Simmons-94 ... Copied to Clipboard!

13. Kingdom Hearts (PS2)
Kingdom Hearts is cheesy, but it's a lovable kind of cheesy. The dumbness of it is more apparent now that I'm older, but at the age of 10 I was legitimately amazed that there was a game that combined my favourite Disney characters with characters I recognized from one of my favourite series of all time. I'm not even the biggest Action RPG fan, but Kingdom Hearts has combat that is simple enough to learn and enjoy as a kid while also being challenging enough that has me even now struggling to defeat certain super bosses. This game is special for a number of reasons. it was the first game in the series, and experiencing something great for the first time is always memorable. It also made me a bigger Final Fantasy fan, as at the time I had only played FF7, and it got me more interested in seeing the games that these characters I was meeting came from. It's definitely not all nostalgia, though. The game was still as great as ever after I played through the Final Mix version on the PS3. I've already talked about why I think the combat and story are great, but really, it's a total package. The different worlds are well designed, and a bunch of fun to explore and interact with as a fan of the material they were taken form, and I actually like the original characters. I mentioned this in the BBS write-up, but as much as I love Disney and their characters, it's the characters and stories created for this game and this series that continue to bring me back in. I'm extremely excited about Kingdom Hearts 3, and none of that excitement is because I want to see more Disney characters. I've been working (and confusing) myself through the story of these original characters for over half of my life at this point, and I want to see their conclusions. --- https://psnprofiles.com/Simmons-94 ... 12. Batman: Arkham Knight (PS4)
This game got a lot of flak when it first came out for a couple of reasons. PC players were justifiably upset about getting a broken game, and it seems like this game never got away from that original hate. Other (or most) players hated the Batmobile, and believed that it was relied too heavily on. As a console player, that first problem was never an issue for me, and as for the Batmobile, I will agree that at times it seemed a little too important, but it never detracted from the rest of the game. I mentioned in the Arkham Asylum write-up how, at the time, I was only a casual fan when it came to superheroes and comics. Arkham Knight, however, came out at a time where my comic fandom was at an all-time high (it still is), and because of that, I think I enjoyed it much more. If I'm being honest, I think I only enjoyed it this much because of my enjoyment of the source material. I mean, the game is great, and you don't have to be a comic reader to enjoy these games, as evidenced by Arkham Asylum's placement, but this is not the twelfth best game of all-time if I don't read comics. But, I do, and it made it that much better. That small reference? That obscure villain? Those minor characters? All things I recognized, and all things that enhanced my time with the game. When it comes to the details of the game, I feel like the Asylum write-up illustrated most of what I like about this series. The story is still as great as ever, and the combat is still tight. Arkham Knight also has the best world in the settings, and my favourite side missions. Again, these are things that are enhanced because of how much I now like Batman, but video games aren't just about playing the game out of context, and it's everything surrounding this game that has made it nearly crack my top 10. 11. Final Fantasy XII (PS2) Based on my continued referencing to the Final Fantasy series and how much I enjoy it, along with the fact that, up to this point, the series has been mostly absent from the list, you can kind of guess that there will be heavy representation of them in these final few write-ups. Final Fantasy XII isn't nearly as polarized in the gaming world as XIII, but I still don't see much love for it overall. Hunts. This game has hunts, and FFXII's iteration of hunts is my single most favourite individual aspect of any Final Fantasy game. People complain about the story in this game. I think it's great, but, oddly enough, the story isn't why this game is so good. To give you an example of my time with this game, I'll start by saying I've played through it multiple times. In each of those playthroughs, the story has taken a back seat. I've never beaten this game. It's not because I lose interest, or I can't; I've gotten to the point where I've been incredibly overleveled, and all I needed to do was go to the final encounter and one hit kill that final boss, but I just don't care. Playing through the game is fun, but when it comes to the endgame, I'm here for the optional, tough dungeons, and the hard to get loot, and most importantly, the hunts. This game is kind of a genre all in its own, and it's for that reason that I love it. Many people say that it's an offline MMO, and because of that, it's bad. After spending a significant amount of time playing this, I've come to the realization that all I've ever wanted was an offline MMO. I love everything about the genre, but I want to play it at my own pace, and I don't want to interact with others or find people to play with in order to access different content. FFXII is my offline MMO, and my huge world that I can continue to get lost in, alone. --- https://psnprofiles.com/Simmons-94 ... Copied to Clipboard!

10. Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! (PSX)
It's been about 5 years since the last time I played this game, and in thinking about what I wanted to write about when it came to Spyro 2, I was instantly hit with nostalgia unlike any other game on this list up to this point. I remembered how great Mr. Moneybags, Ripto, and all of the other characters were. How fun it was to collect every gem in every level, and to then find and unlock the secret levels in every world. And more than anything, I especially remembered the ice hockey mini-game in the Colossus level. That hockey area might be one of my favourite mini-gameS of all-time. Nostalgia is all well and good, but Spyro 2 is more than that. Yeah, I did play this a whole bunch as a kid, and other than one other game on this list, there is nothing on the original Playstation that compared to it then. It all holds up, though. I've played this game my whole life. If I still had my PS3 in my possession, I'd finish this write-up and play some more of it. I get defensive about Spyro because of this game. Every bad game he was a part of, and however terrible he looks in Skylanders doesn't matter to me, because Spyro 2 is one of the best games of all-time. Why is it the tenth best game of all-time? I mentioned most of what I liked about the series in my Spyro 3 write-up. The second game is just as great when it comes to the gameplay and level design, but it's all much more memorable to me with Ripto's Rage. I think the characters are much better, and I forgot how great the soundtrack was until I just spent too much time on Youtube reliving it all. Besides all that, this was my first Spyro game, and one of the first games I owned and spent a lot of time with on the original Playstation. 9. Jak II (PS2) Jak and Daxter is a great game, with some great characters and humour. You know what else is great? Guns. This might as well be part of a different series altogether, because other than those aforementioned characters and humour, almost nothing about this game is similar to the first. Even Jak himself becomes a much different (better) character. What this series essentially became was a mixture of the best parts of the original Jak game and the Ratchet & Clank series. You still had that tight, fun platforming, but now you could do that while being faced with more menacing enemies, and guns, of course. Ratchet & Clank no doubt does weapons better, but the guns here were also pretty cool. I particularly enjoyed how there were only four guns and ammo types, with each additional firing type treated as an upgrade to those existing guns. The story and setting here is great too. The dark, grungy city atmosphere was a complete 180 from the original, but it fit the tone of the story well. It's actually for that same reason that I didn't really enjoy Jak III. The tone and city in the second game perfectly fit what the game and series were going for, and the big desert and different towns in the third game felt comparatively empty. Being older, and having played the game multiple times since I was a kid, the plot twist near the end can be seen a mile away, but at the time, I was genuinely shocked at everything that was happening and how the story eventually all fell into place. I still think this game has a great story today, though. You know what else this game has? An open-world setting, mission based gameplay, and a driving system. We already know how I feel about those. --- https://psnprofiles.com/Simmons-94 ... Copied to Clipboard!

8. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (PS4)
I had no idea how much I would end up enjoying this game when I started playing it. As a console and primarily Sony only gamer, I hadn't even heard of this series before the marketing for this game, and after doing some research and finding out that it was an open-world RPG set in a fantasy world, I decided to pick it up around launch, and wow, I can't believe I could have passed this game over. This is the first game on the list that I would truly give a 10/10 to, and it deserves it. There is so much good in this game, and very little, if any, bad. Sure, it might've been buggy at certain times, but those were all fixed in various patches. I guess the one thing that I wouldn't consider to be excellent is the soundtrack. I think it's good, and there are a few great songs in this game, but the point I'm trying to make here is that everything else is 10/10. I'll start with the world. This game contains the best world I've ever seen. There is so much going on in the space, it feels so alive, and not empty at all. The people and monsters you meet on the roads and forests are interesting, the small villages are lively and feel lived in, and the bigger towns and cities feel crowded, and busy. I never felt alone, regardless of where I was in this world, and that's a good thing. I could go on and on about the story and the characters. Geralt is great, as is the entire idea surrounding what Witchers are. For the first time in a game, I didn't feel like I was the most important person in the world. Things are happening in this world, and Geralt is just living in it, doing his job. Political turmoil and wars are happening, and while Geralt does get dragged into it at certain points, he otherwise only cares about his end goal. Geralt never starts a sidequest just for the sake of it, like in every other game ever. You want to find this person, or for this demon to be killed? Fine, Geralt will oblige, if you pay him. I know that when it comes down to it, many of the quests in this game do end up being your generic sidequest, but this game manages to make them feel different, feel meaningful. This is already the longest write-up so far, and I've yet to even mention the combat. There are still a few things I want to say, so in an effort to not write pages about this game, all I'll say is that I found the combat the right kind of difficult. It felt extremely satisfying learning the best way to defeat certain enemies and approaching each fight with a strategy. I actually felt overwhelmed many times throughout this game, and I loved it. I didn't reach Skellige for the first time until I was over 50 hours into this game, because I wanted to do every sidequest and go to every single question mark on the map, and I did. I got lost in this game's world, and I wish I could do it again for the first time. I would need a whole other write-up to explain why the DLC in this game is so great, so I'll just end it here by saying that Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are the best DLC I've ever played. P.S. Gwent is great. --- https://psnprofiles.com/Simmons-94 ... Copied to Clipboard!

7. Dark Cloud 2 (PS2)
We seen the first game earlier on in the list, and Dark Cloud 2 is better in essentially every way. This game is really only a sequel in name, as the story, characters, and world itself are not shared between games. What Dark Cloud 2 does take from the first game is the same overall structure of dungeon crawling and world building, and not only does it improve on both of those things, but it also adds about a hundred other things to do as well. Seriously, there is so much to do in this game, it's kind of insane. You still have your dungeons and world building through georama, and your different weapon types and durability and thirst issues in the dungeons. Fishing also makes it return in this game, with added depth. On top of that, you have Spheda, which is essentially golf, playable on every level, and fishing competitions where you can race those fish you've been catching. You can also feed and breed fish as well for those competitions. Oh, and you can invent and then make different items, ranging from clothing and weapons, to food and upgrade items. How do you invent things, you ask? That would be through the photography system, which involves taking pictures of literally everything in the game, from clocks and benches, to people and enemies. There's also a monster catching and upgrading system crammed in there as well. That felt like one long run-on sentence, but I feel like I've only scratched the surface of what this game has to offer. In many of my playthroughs, I'd use my previous knowledge of playing and spend hours photographing every single item in the world. I've been playing this game since I was a kid, and while I've technically only completed it one time, I've had several playthroughs exceed forty to fifty hours in playtime, purely because of all the things this game offers you. It feels like there's a dozen systems being thrown at you at once, and I can't get enough of it. And, above all that, you have a solid story and some great gameplay progression. To summarize briefly, you have the ability to travel to the future and back again, which ends up being a key factor in the overall plot. With the aforementioned world building, when you make changes in the past through building, you significantly alter the future. As a kid, I had a lot of fun attempting to optimally build the past in order to get a 100% completion rating in the future. It was just another thing in a game of a million things, and they were all great. They're still great too, by the way. My only actual completion of this game came last year when it was re-released on the PS4, and it held up as great as ever. --- https://psnprofiles.com/Simmons-94 ... Copied to Clipboard!

Some of these top 10 write-ups are going to be pretty long. I've yet to complete the write-up for #2 or #1, but The Witcher 3 seems like it's going to be the high point when it comes to word count.
Tomorrow is going to be 6-4, and then the top 3 will be posted on Wednesday! --- https://psnprofiles.com/Simmons-94 ... Copied to Clipboard!
