R4. Division C
166 Jolteon
151 Charizard
138 Nidoking
138 Pancham
136 Krookodile
135 Mewtwo
134 Meowstic
128 Starmie
---------------------
128 Galvantula
121 Lugia

Galvantula losing in a tiebreaker situation to STARMIE is gen-one travesty. The best thing about Starmie is that it literally says "hyah!" Galvantula will go out as the most snubbed Pokemon who made top 48 last year. The only post-gen 1 Pokemon to be featured on two boxarts, goes out in last (I didn't confirm that stat.) Jolteon and Charizard stand out, while the rest of the division is fairly close!

What do you guys think for matches per day? is 24 too many? There will be 8 divisions of 6 and all Pokemon must play every Pokemon in their division. There will be 120 total matches so maybe 12 per day over 10 days?

Top 48 by raw score. I've sorted them into their World Cup seeds, random will take care of the rest!

WORLD CUP - DAY ONE

ZEPHYR - Espeon slays the Krook, Lucario doesn't leave much to be questioned vs Luxray, and Scyther plays with a Nido. Are the three stars standing out today?

22 Espeon
10 Krookodile

19 Lucario
13 Luxray

10 Nidoking
22 Scyther

HIVE - Jolteon beats on that which he came from. Starmie gets way too close to Mew for comfort...Vivillon puts up a respectable number vs. Typhlosion. Good to see my boy Viv has a chance?

11 Eevee
21 Jolteon

18 Mew

14 Starmie

16 Typhlosion
15 Vivillon

PLAIN - Decidueye continues to excel vs. steep competition! Empoleon is showing what it came second last year. Mewtwo blasts Tyrantrum into obscurity!

12 Absol
19 Decidueye

18 Empoleon
13 Excadrill

20 Mewtwo
12 Tyrantrum

FOG - Definitely the closest division so far! Only 6 point differential for the day. Ampharos takes beats Blastoise by a mere 3 votes. Houndoom wins the featured match in a nail-biter! Tyraniter barely takes out Sawsbuck!

WORLD CUP - DAY TWO

STORM - Squirtle BOI gotta do better than that if he wants to be the very best two years in a row! Metagross' top 5 repeat is becoming further and further away each round. Is this the nail in its koffing? *cough*

12 Alakazam
17 Articuno

17 Dragonite
12 Metagross

14 Pangoro
15 Squirtle

MINERAL - Rowlet and Grenina struggle vs. more established opponents, but not TOO much! Vulpix takes out Vapes by a handful of votes.

16 Gengar

13 Greninja

12 Rowlet
17 Scizor

13 Vaporeon
16 Vulpix

GLACIER - Arcanine wins the featured match. Charmander barely ousts Lycanroc. Snorlax wins the Gen 1 battle for mid-high gen 1 strength!

16 Arcanine

13 Charizard

15 Charmander
14 Lycanroc

13 Marowak

WORLD CUP - DAYS 4/5

STORM - A tie by Drag/Squir opens the door for the potential of neither of them advancing! Still too early to tell, though! The other matches stay close so this div is anyone's game. After 2/5 matches played by all, Alakazam has 0, others have 3,3,2,2,2.

14 Alakazam
16 Metagross

14 Articuno
16 Pangoro

15 Dragonite
15 Squirtle

MINERAL - I'll comment on individual matches since yeah, two games is way too early to make calls. Rowlet beating Vulpix is a pretty big deal! Both Rowlet and Decidueye are looking good. Scizor breezes past Gengar and Greninja water SFFs Vapes to the DIRT.

13 Gengar
17 Scizor

19 Greninja
11 Vaporeon

16 Rowlet
14 Vulpix

GLACIER - Arcanine maintains the top dog in the competition. Charizard diminishes Marowak's chances. Charmander does the same to Snorlax.

19 Arcanine
11 Lycanroc

17 Charizard
13 Marowak

16 Charmander
14 Snorlax

RISING - Bulbasaur is looking less and less like it will be repeating its position from last year. The cutest gen 6ers faced off, and with them being so close, it looks like this division may belong to other Pokemon. Mimikyu tying Umbreon is absolutely a big deal!

13 Bulbasaur
17 Ninetales

16 Meowstic
14 Pancham

15 Mimikyu
15 Umbreon

ZEPHYR - Okay, now we're getting into three matches played. Luxray and Krookodile have 0% chance of advancing now, since two Pokemon have 6 pts. and they have 0. The three winners of these matches have the best chance.

17 Espeon
12 Nidoking

12 Krookodile
17 Lucario

14 Luxray
15 Scyther

HIVE - Jolteon is making absolute work of the competition. With 396/400 points, and a +30 in its division here. I could see Jolteon in the finals for sure. Vivillon has a -5 over three losses. That's pretty insane. Any Pokemon has a chance to advance except Vivillon, unless it beats Jolt.

16 Eevee
13 Typhlosion

21 Jolteon
8 Mew

15 Starmie
14 Vivillon

PLAIN - This div is Decidueye's to lose at this point. He took out last year's 2nd place Pokemon with EASE. Tyrantrum and Absol seem to be biding their time at this point. Empoleon, Mewtwo and Excadrill have 4 pts. each.

13 Absol
16 Mewtwo

21 Decidueye
8 Empoleon

17 Excadrill
12 Tyrantrum

FOG - The only clear trend here is Ampharos winning everything. I am not sure how to gauge the rest. I would put money on neither Flygon or Sawsbuck advancing, but time will tell!

16 Ampharos
12 Sawsbuck

16 Blastoise

I was a bit surprised when I saw it getting a lot of love, since I initially thought it would receive some hate for being an actual Pikachu knockoff (unlike the standard Pikachu clones we get each generation), with the potential for some people to point towards Mimikyu as an example of the later generations having unoriginal Pokemon designs.

TOP 16 GRAND REVEAL
Revealed in order of overall contest grade

#1 Jolteon

496 / 500gr ; 2016 Rank - 8th
Jolteon has been absolutely dominating the competition. With only being outperformed in one round, and winning Inviso's generation 1 gauntlet, Jolteon has a great shot of winning this year. Expect little payout on a Jolteon bet, at this point! Bulbasaur took Jolteon out last year, and Bulbasaur is now GONE. Is this Jolteon's chance?

#2(t) Arcanine

449 / 500gr ; 2016 Rank - 10th
A consistent top performer who never really breaks through to the top spotlight. Is this Arcanine's moment? You guys will decide that. Arcanine has performed solidly with relative dependability, and if he breaks through to the top 10, he has a chance at winning the battles all the way to the top. Arcanine was slain by Empoleon last year, and Empoleon is still around to seal the deal. Will we see a rematch this year?

#2(t) Espeon

449 / 500gr ; 2016 Rank - 7th
The Espeon/Umbreon bros finished last year at 6th and 7th. They are currently sitting at 2nd and 5th, and both have a chance at that top 5. Sister Jolteon might outdo them this year, but anything is still possible. I would still say Umbreon has the edge over Espeon for some reason, but let's see if Espy stays on top.

#4 Decidueye
434 / 500gr ; 2016 Rank - NR
One of our two Gen 7 newcomers. I would certainly not count Decidueye out. Decidueye has impressed round after round and is looking to have the best average performance from 2016/2017. From what I understood as a "disappointment" from fans, to what I see as #4 going into the top 16, anything can happen now.

#5 Umbreon
431 / 500gr ; 2016 Rank - 6th
From what I didn't mention in Espeon's reveal, Umbreon's one sign of weakness is a tie to Mimikyu. It's hard to guess overall support from one 30-vote match, but a rematch of Mimikyu vs. Umbreon in the top 10 is a possibility. I'd say that would be a challenge for Umbreon to overcome! Umbreon lost 343-337 in the gold parcel round to Metagross last year. With Metagross being gone, the path could be wide open.

#6 Houndoom
429 / 500gr ; 2016 Rank - 9th
I'd say Houndoom falls into the same category as Arcanine. Always performs well, but never fully stands out. Houndoom has this going on a little more fresh as he was positioned behind Ampharos in his division in R5 this year. This strong group of Golden Parcel LOSERS from last year is looking strong right now. Can any of them overcome the travesty from last year?

#7(t) Pangoro

415 / 500gr ; 2016 Rank - 61st
Other than the unreleased Pokemon, Pangoro will remain the most improved Pokemon of the top 16. Whether it's giving the public more time to decide on a favorite, or whether Pangoro has some other memorable moment, he's become the POTY face of Gen 6. The recent wave of support can bring Pangoro into the top 10.

#7(t) Scizor
415 / 500gr ; 2016 Rank - 36th
Scizor has looked like a pillar of strength this year. Last year, it went out 35th in a division of Charizard, Flygon, Espeon, Blaziken, Breloom. Other than beating Blaziken and tying Espeon (wut,) Scizor lost every match. Scizor looks like it is clearing its own path this year, rather than sitting in the bushes and being fed to the wolves.

#9 Gengar
413 / 500gr ; 2016 Rank - 16th
Gengar didn't get past the funky marathon round last year as it just kind of faded behind all the other competitors. Gengar has a chance to change its fate this year, however. Any gen one can get enough support to win, but I'd put Gengar's chances fairly low as it doesn't really have that well-rounded support it needs to pull off a win. Anything is possible in POTY, though!

#10 Ampharos
396 / 500gr ; 2016 Rank - 29th
As my personal favorite of the top 16, Ampharos has a 0% chance of winning. In all seriousness, though, Ampharos has been a long-running favorite of many people in Pokemon. Ampharos top it's division over Houndoom this year, so even though it sits in 10th, it can easily pull off a win here!

#11 Lucario
376 / 500gr ; 2016 Rank - 4th
The second best 2016 performer still in the competition. Lucario will always have strength in POTY, and we can all see it making top 5 yet again, but can anyone see it taking the crown? I see Lucario as a Pokemon who will always finish top 30, but will never clinch the win. After beating Empoleon last year in WC, to only losing to Espeon this year 17-13, to 4th place overall last year...Lucario has a resume built up. Let's see if he can land that CEO position.

#12 Eevee

370 / 500gr ; 2016 Rank - 22nd
As the seed of all its strong Eon brethren, Eevee has trouble fully standing out on its own. This year, though, Eevee has broken through to the top 16 and looks to perform in the way it deserves. The same thing that could be seen as a strength for Eevee is also its biggest challenge to overcome. Eevee will always be in the shadow of the JoltUmbEspeon trio so let's see if it can change that.

#13 Mimikyu
356 / 500gr ; 2016 Rank - NR
The second of our new additions to the top 16, Mimikyu has a great chance of taking the crown this year. Mimikyu has had some strong performances this year, but has its share of supporters and doubters. I'd say Mimikyu is a polarizing figure this year, having come up the most in discussion. The format for top 16 is raw support with no chances to attack another Pokemon. In that kind of format, I'd say Mimikyu is guaranteed to be seen facing off vs. something in top 10.

#14 Articuno
355 / 500gr ; 2016 Rank - 35th
Articuno has an uphill battle, but having just advanced out of a division with last year's 1st and 5th, anything is possible now! Articuno did finish behind Pangoro in the division, but that division was quite twisted so I wouldn't say Pangoro has the upper hand.

#15 Empoleon
342 / 500gr ; 2016 Rank - 2nd
After finishing 2nd last year, Empoleon has being clawing and scraping to stay in this. Every round seems like a close call. Since Squirtle has been ousted this year, Empoleon remains that top 2016 performer in the competition. I will say I strongly doubt that Empoleon pulls off a repeat, but I've been an avid Empoleon doubter who has been proven wrong time and time again. Let's roll a dice and see where Emp ends up.

#16 Charmander
318 / 500gr ; 2016 Rank - 43rd
Fresh off of a Charizard victory, Charmander is looking for something to prove. I could say with relative confidence that being stuck in a division with Charizard perhaps helped Charmander. After being outperformed by Squirtle and Bulbasaur last year (1st and 3rd, respectively,) Charmander certainly finished on top this year. This underdog, however, is going to have to pull off a miracle to take the crown.
