So far we have accomplished 4 missions successfully.

two Civilian contacts, one scientist, and one engineer have been rescued from Advent prisons.

We now are sending a small team of an unnamed Rookie and Green "Lopen" Gravy to attempt to retrieve some data. They are attempting to sneak past without ever been seen.

And it was a success. Well not sneaking past without being seen but the mission was a success after taking some heavy damage.

Gravy is out of commission for 31 days and our new Ranger Gimme "Chocolate" Pudding is out for 25 days. BUT THEY PULLED IT OFF.

And we have our first mission we have skipped. Two people isn't enough for a mission that doesn't start with being concealed when one is a rookie so RIP that scientist.

Then we go on a jailbreak for 4 more resistance members with Zev, Tom, ChaosTony, and TexasZea... my first time through I thought I could escape with 0 on the timer when I was wrong and couldn't so I restarted after leaving everyone behind and it was perfect the second time. Yay me >_>

But more importantly we have our two ME people(there are visual packs for other squad members if anyone else wants to be one) Bane and Tabii.

Now we have a squad of just SwordZ and Tom going on a mission to rescue 4 resistance members who are imprisoned. Thankfully we start in stealth but this could still easily go south.

And go south it does.

We successfully rescued all 4 resistance members but SwordZ died during a last ditch attempt to reach the evacuation point while running through Overwatch.

Our current missions are to extract a VIP with ICON, Shad, and Supremezero and to assassinate a target with Tabii, Bane, and Pirateking. Hopefully those infiltrations and missions go a bit better than Swordz's and Tom's did.

An amazing job by ICON, Shad, and Supremezero to successfully sneak out a VIP scientist without ever engaging the enemy.

Followed by an amazing job by Bane, Tabii, and Pirateking to sneak in and assassinate an enemy VIP.

Meanwhile we have Zev, Texas, Steiner, Tony, and Emerald going on a mission to sabotage a monument and get me a soldier.

Tabii, Bane, Pirateking, ICON, Shad, and Supremezero are infiltrating to extract a VIP and find a lead for the storyline of the game.

Snake, Eddv, and Crazygamer are going to attempt to recover an item from an advent vault for some Intel.

EDIT: First Menuwars is leading a group of resistance volunteers to attack a Faceless than infiltrated the resistance and is currently meeting with some other Advent. Hopefully this goes decently since he is just rank 1...

So RIP one of the resistance members who volunteered to help Menu.

Other than the death the mission was a complete success though.

In the meantime our A team successfully blows up a ADVENT monument but Cyclo is mildly wounded. Emerald promotes to a specialist.

We send Chaostony, Emerald, Steiner, and Texas in to infiltrate and attempt to destroy an ADVENT relay.

And then we cut back to Snake, Eddv, and Crazygamer trying to recover a data cache since their infiltration is finished.

Eddv and Crazygamer got the attention of all the enemies and immediately evacuated after doing so while Snake used staying concealed to sneak around the back and successfully grab the intel. Snake then just moved the evac zone to right on top of him and got out without firing a single shot.

Well done ninja team.

Steiner, Texas, Emerald, and Chaostony also pull off their mission of destroying the relay near perfectly.

Chaostony was unforunately injured though and will be out of commission for a f***ing month so that isn't fun.

Later tonight or tomorrow we have the first big mission.

Shad, ICON, Supremezero, Bane, Tabii, and Pirateking are supposed to escort a captured ranger who has a major intel lead out so we can start to completely free West Africa from ADVENT control. We shall see what happens.

Yes it changes the fundamentals of how the strategy layer and sending people on a mission works. The actual gameplay in the missions isn't changed much though.

In LW2 you detect a mission.

Then your soldiers you are sending have to infiltrate it. You lose all infiltration progress if you want to pull anyone back. So yes at various points I have had 2-3 groups all infiltrating at the same time.

Do vanilla first is what I would recommend. If you played a lot of LW1 you might be able to get away with starting on LW2 but the vanilla game is still really good so I would recommend starting with it regardless. I would recommend a vanilla game with the following mods.

Perfect Information 625737801 (turn the only knowing if you have loot after scanning option on instead of off like it is by default)

They are the 5 QOL mods I consider absolutely necessary. Grab cosmetic mods if you see any you like. I wouldn't get any that touch actual gameplay for your first playthrough(including LW2)

I had to give up on Long War 1 since the air missions were annoying the crap out of me (mainly since there wasn't even strategy involved, the RNG would just f*** you beyond all repair and there was nothing you could do). Does LW2 change anything there?

Have you played XCOM 2?

There aren't any shooting down UFOS.

... kinda.

The Avenger will very rarely get into a shootout with a UFO(result determined randomly) and then you either get to raid the UFO if you won or have to defend the Avenger while Shen repairs it if you lost for the base game.

Not sure what LW2 is going to do but I haven't had anything of the sort happen.

We mostly made it through without being seen but in the end we are and then Shad misses a key Rocket completely to deal no damage. A desparate sprint to the evac zone saved everyone's life but not without the cost of extreme damage to Supremezero and Pirateking. Tabii also takes some damage but not much.

We do succeed though and recruit @JONALEON1

Shen's last gift accomplished successfully.

While Lily was badly wounded and the Spark was slightly wounded the mission ends in complete success.

This mission is quickly followed by Emerald detecting the damn Faceless that infiltrated and had been stealing supplies. The mission goes very well and Emerald gets his promotion.
