I don't like the health care law and want it changed, but after reading his opinion I can't help agree with his assertion that congress is allowed to tax.

A great feeling knowing we have at least one justice who values the constitution over partisanship. May all justices be like John Roberts.

I've been arguing that Obamacare is a glorified tax for a while now, and I'm so happy that the key swing vote sympathized with my perspective. I'm a conservative myself, but the mandate is no more a "breach of liberty" than the government taxing Americans, purchasing private goods, and then distributing out. This is just cutting out the middle man.

Great day for America, although Romney's toast now.

Romney is in the same spot as before really. This changes nothing there.

Was there anyone really waiting for the Supreme Court's decision to make up their mind? It seems to me like you either know your position on Obama/Romney already or still won't care.

I'm biased but I think this helps Romney. It gives him a platform (repeal obamacare) more than anything.

Because the candidates are so similar, there is a HUGE portion of voters that are still undecided, and will probably be undecided until the day of election. Because the candidates largely agree on the big issues, the undecided have to make up their minds using the little details, which makes their decision really volatile.

The crux of Romneys/mainstream conservatisms position on obamacare was that it was unconstitutional. And its not.

I'm honestly rather curious as to how many Republicans voted for it when it went through Congress.

It does sort of bother me that it's labeled as "obamacare", when it reality it had to go through Congress. I don't know, it just seems like an easy way for certain parties to simplify how it became legislature.

No Republican voted for it, and many Dems voted "no" as well.

It likely either doesn't change anything, or hurts Romney slightly.

Anybody big on "WE MUST STOP OBAMACARE" was already going to vote Romney, anyway.

I don't really see this as causing anything except maybe time for some people to realize Obamacare helps them and swing their vote that way.

the only way this will help romney is that he might see a bump in fundraising

it would have been a much bigger blow to obama to have the thing he spent like the entire first two years on be declared unconstitutional

You're expecting the people who say this dumb crap to care. They really don't.

I don't believe this changes much. The issue's so divisive that everyone had made up their minds about it far in advance.

Now that it was ruled constitutional, Romney gets a boost because people who want to get rid of obamacare will "have" to vote for him. If it was shot down, they wouldn't have to vote for Romney unless there was something else they liked about him.

But if it was shot down, Obama could easily just do the whole victimization thing and say that congress and republicans won't let him do anything good, which would boost Obama's prospects for sure.

I do like how back when everyone thought it was going to be overturned all I heard was "this is going to help Romney and be a huge blow to Obama" and now that it was upheld it is apparently going to help Romney and hurt Obama.

And I still say it makes little to no difference.

Apparently one Republican did.

And enough had to have voted for it, or it wouldn't have passed!

It is Obamacare because if the West Wing has taught me anything, it is that the president has tremendous influence on congress and on important bills will call in favors that he will later regret just to get it passed.

Funny, I heard that Romney was going to have problems if the mandate was taken out because people would want to fix it and make it work again

No Republican voted for the final bill. One guy from Louisiana voted for it at first, but then voted against it during reconciliation (the final vote).

Yeah Wikipedia mentions one Republican voting for it early on, but doesn't go into detail until later.
