You know, the guy in Norway who killed a bunch of kids?

I haven't, but apparently the state is arguing that the guy is insane and deserves a lenient sentence and medical assistance, and meanwhile, he has insisted his defense maintain that he is perfectly sane and knew what he was doing and is fully responsible for his actions.

Kind of interesting, huh?

In Norway an insanity claim makes the sentence worse, not better - it's the only way a convict can be put away for life.

Plus it's humiliating for Breivik to be declared insane.

Right. I just find it kind of funny that in America, the defense always goes to great lengths to prove they were insane and the prosecution says, "no, he knew what he was doing."
