True Story: I own every single Disney Movie on VHS. grandfather started the collection so we have the first copies of everything. I've looked around and I'm sitting on thousands of dollars that I would NEVER give up. Not just because my grandfather treasured it but because they're my favorite movies.

I was raised on Disney movies. They're my life. I know the characters and I see myself in them. I'm ignorant and adventurous like Mowgli but also cruel and aggressive like Sher Khan. I'm charming and poor like Aladdin but I have a lust for power like Jafar.

1. The Fox and the Hound is my most watches Disney movie. 56 times. Still makes me tear up.

2.The Great Mouse Detective is the greatest animated movie ever. Better than Akira. Better than Spirited Away. Better than the Lion King. Disney has never been so dark, never so violent. There were no songs that allowed Christian Morality to save the day. Disney never reached this level of dark gloom until the first Pirates Movie.

I am glad we agree so completely on Disney. I don't have the collection you do (DVDs feel so hollow in comparison) but Disney kicks ass.

I remember the Fox and the Hound as a kid, what a great movie. The Great Mouse Detective is one I have not seen in years but I should watch it again, I enjoyed it as a child and would probably enjoy it even more now. I appreciate their classics a lot, although Tangled completely slayed me.

Akira is great, no question at all. Some things enjoy, some things you just sit back and realize you experienced greatness. Akira blows me away even after all of these years.

two quick asides before we jump into 10.

1.I ALWAYS make women watch Fox and the Hound before I consider them girlfriends. If they don't tear up or flat out cry, they are denied GF status. It's that serious.

2.Go rewatch Great Mouse Detective. Look at the eerieness of it. Look at the gloom and doom feel. Watch that Final Scene on the watch tower where Ratican butchers, and I mean completely BUTCHERS our hero. This isn't Jafar shooting magic and trapping people in jars, this is Ratican ripping the flesh from body, torturing Basil. It's brutal, violent, dark, and the most brilliant work DIsney has ever put on screen.

3.Many "forward thinking" movies don't age well. Go back and watch South Park the Movie. Go watch American Pie. Those movies feel ancient and outdated. Go watch Momento, it's non-linear plot seems quite normal, almost mundane in 2012. But Akira? That movie still feels 10 years away at all times. It always feels preparatory, like a message from the future we're too busy smiling to take seriously. It's so urgent, so unfriendly, so CERTAIN in itself that it maintains this unyielding terror for nearly 2 hours.



Remember the Titans is the 3rd most rewatchable football movie. The Program being #2, and Varsity Blues being #1 for reasons that deserve their own topic. Denzel gives us a masterpiece and Hayden Panetierre turned made every guy say the same thing

"she's gonna be so hot"
